Yeah but we are talking about Foreman in '91... not mid '92, not mid '93, and not late '94. There is an obvious difference. He was much better for Holyfield in '91 than he was for Stewart, Morrison, or Moorer. He'd be better against a guy like Quarry as well. Quarry had enough skill to make a guy like Foreman come to the fight well prepared.
Better chin but much worse skin. Moorer was bigger, stronger, faster (hands and feet), more elusive, punched harder, and fought from the southpaw stance... even though he is right handed. Also, we are talking about a Foreman from 3 1/2 years earlier.
old Foreman of the Cooney, Rodriguez, Holyfield fights gets Quarry outta there inside rounds. If Jerry gets all brave and decides to trade he dont go 3
Quarry is way overrated. His best win is a very debatable decision against 195 pound Floyd Patterson who was about 10 years past his prime and had already been destroyed by Johansson, Liston (twice) and beaten down badly by Ali. But people talk like this guy was something special. I give him credit for beating some second-rung up-and-comers in the early 1970s when people in boxing thought he was done (Mac Foster, Ron Lyle, Earnie Shavers). But against the more experienced and top quality fighters he was found wanting. Old Foreman would batter him. Quarry was too small and took too many punches.
Stories of Quarry beating Foreman up constantly and easily in sparring are to be taken with a large dose of salt.
