James Toney, and I actually enjoyed watching Jones clown Jeff Lacy, especially when he did about 9 unanswered left hooks against Lacy's gormless face. :rofl:rofl
that was honestly sad, i couldn't finish that fight. lacy was a big mouth but that kind of beating is hard to watch. same reason i almost turned off the ppv of gatti/mayweather :-(
Anyone voting that Jones Jr knocks Calzaghe out is almost as disgraceful as those voting that Calzaghe wins in my view.
and i get laughed at EVERY TIME i bring it up but jones jab in the vinny paz fight is the greatest i've ever seen. i know i know it's paz. a good but not great LIGHTWEIGHT who was fighting at 168. the victory don't count for much but watching those skills, AMAZING and if calzaghe throwing 1000 punches on a heavy bag counts as a skill, so does jones dismantling paz with a jab, a punch he'd never really used
i think it's the defense angle: jones had serious power at one point and if he can land consistently on calzaghe (not pot shotting but LANDING) for 10+ rounds, who knows
I know what you mean. His corner should have pulled him out from the 5th round onwards. His face was a swollen mess afterwards.
I thought of some interesting numbers to posters that actually believe that Joe was more over the hill than Roy when they fought. These are rough statistics and numbers before the bell rang with Jones and Calzaghe. Jones age:39 Fights:56 Rounds boxed:366 Weight progression: 154-160-168-175-HW-175 Calzaghe age:36 Fights:45 Rounds boxed:250 Weight progression: 168-175 At least in numbers, Roy's fighting career seemed to have way more miles on it, and covered much more ground in terms of weight. When you add in the fact that Roy was knocked senseless by other fighters years before Calzaghe fought him, fighters he would have dominated earlier. Roy also only had wins against D level opposition in between his losses and fighting Calzaghe. I am not calling Calzaghe peak,(though he was #3 P4P, using the same argument his supporters have used to try to say Hopkins was prime, same rank, same title..) but it seems irrefutable that Jones was way more over the hill than Calzaghe.
Yeah, I voted Jones by UD only because I have much respect for Calzaghe and do believe he was a great fighter, it is hard for me to say Roy just knocks him out. But like Jordoz said, it was certainly possible... In 94 Roy had elite power with either hand and would let his hands go when he was forced to when a fighter would pressure him. He was content to potshot at times, but Joe would have pushed him. I don't think calling Roy by KO is disgraceful by any means though, if anything it commends Joe's heart, knowing he would keep pushing and would not back off until he was knocked out or he knocked Roy out. Numerous lesser fighters than Joe went 12 with prime Roy, only because they backed off and made Roy chase them around. It is not a disgrace to Joe to say he would not have backed off, and eventually went down on his shield, forcing a great fight while it lasted.
You call Joe totally shot when he fought Roy, Do you seriously question Calzaghe was p4p3 and lhw 1 when Roy fought him? Then lie about his age, like a a drunk kid trying to get into a bar? Same "irrefutable" evidence you use for Hopkins being prime when Joe fought him, are that of Joe when he fought Roy, except minus SEVEN years of age!!!! By the way, I know you think Pavlik is another American hype job, you would be spouting off about that if it didn't help your delusional Calzaghe argument. Eat **** Poser.:hi: The only thing you will ever win a fight against is that dummy you pack around and dress up in your clothes.
Jesus christ Hopkins was 43 when he fought Calzaghe. That is IRREFUTABLE evidence enough that he was NOWHERE NEAR his prime.
it's tough because a number, not all, but a number of calzaghe fans want people to give him credit he simply doesn't deserve. HOF? yes ATG? no Best ever 168 pounder? yes beats jones in prime? no Calzaghe was **** on for years and I'm guilty of it to. But now he's getting the credit he DESERVES and his fans/trolls want more. It's ridiculous. He's great but not an all time great. That should be plenty BTW: one of my top 3 fighters of all time is micky ward....i know and accept his limitations and love him anyway. that's how it goes
Yes, we definitely don't have any posters from Asia, Europe, Australia, or Canada. By trolling do you mean that the poll should be even more of a landslide than 82-18, and that the 18% is most likely trolling... or is the trolling the fact that 80+% find Roy Jones the victor in this matchup?
yeah, the reasonable calzaghe fans don't give super joe much of a chance. i'm glad i'm from canada: the only nation bias i have is to chuvalo so patriotism means **** to me
I'm from canada also. Calzaghe being the best 168 pounder ever could possibly be true. But H2H he isn't the best.
