15 rounds, Mike Tyson (coming off the 1st loss to Holyfield) replaces Jack Dempsey (coming of his 1st loss to Tunney) as an opponent for Jack Sharkey. Who takes it, and how?

Hard one tbh....I would pick Tyson, too strong, Sharkey would give him some trouble though......
I think Sharkey would be ahead in the scorecards but Tyson would get the TKO eventually....

If I could trust Sharkey to keep his head in the pocket, I might even make him favourite here.

Sorry, I screwed up the thread title ... can anyone fix it to '97 Mike Tyson vs. '27 Jack Sharkey ? (rather than '97 Mike Tyson vs. '127 Jack Sharkey ).

    Sure.

For future reference, you can fix it yourself. (in forum view, double click the empty space to the immediate right of the title, and it will open it for editing. Only your own threads, obviously...)

What about a Ali who was filmed in black and white? Does the process of being filmed in old timey camra technology actually make one less of a fighter? :think

i forget who said it but a trainer claimed sharkey was the best fighter in the world...from the head down

i don't know how close to prime sharkey was by this point. i honestly love sharkey and he had a brilliant ****ing left hook that still stands the test of time. a quick glance shows he still had the form to beat loughran and stribling...but this is tyson

grrrrr this is a tough one :smoke

Compared to the '97 Tyson, Sharkey's mentality was cool. Anything could happen.
I'd make Tyson a firm favourite though.

His best shape post prison. He knew and respected Holyfield after their first outing, what was missing was discipline.

One thing about Tyson is, when he really respected/feared an opponent, he came in terrific shape and trained his ass off.

Bruno 2, Holyfield 2, Ruddock 1+2, Lewis (yes), Berbick.

As for the thread title, Holyfield took some big shots in those 3 rounds that he shook off, any other heavyweight and it may have been a different story.

    Im still picking Tyson

I think this ends in a foul. Two hot heads.
