Forrest would KO Vargas because he hits hard and is a big guy with very good boxing skills.

Vargas at the top of his game was amazing to watch ... he had good speed, good head and shoulder movement, good jab, nice power, relentless style with good boxing skill.

I take Vargas by decision or late rounds KO ...

I like Vargas as well. At his peak, which was short, he was a pleasure to watch. The way he moved in the ring, the way he pivoted, i loved watching him. Vargas by TKO or UD.

I take Forrest by wide UD.

He would pepper Vargas with jabs, straight rights, and throw in the odd uppercut; Forrest had/has great footwork and is great at measuring distance. Vargas would have his moments, but they would come in short sporadic bursts. His never-say-die attitude would get him through to the bell, but he might hit the canvas once or twice.

How is that so? Every fight that Vargas had with top tier fighters, such as Trinidad, and DLH, he was competitive. Forrest couldnt even legitimately beat Quartey, and he's supposed to destroy Vargas?

    Fernando Vargas by early K.O.
If I can find one HUGE weakness in Vernon Forrest it is his heart.
(He has too much for his own good)
Dude will go to War and exchange with any of his opponent's like he did
with Mayorga, Even tho he can easily stick and decision them from the outside with no problems. You defo cannot exchange with a prime Vargas.
Forrest was able to exchange with a smaller Mosley, but the natural LT. Heavy/Cruiser (walking around weight) turned jr. middleweight in Fernando.
would be too much for Forrest in an exchange.

there both vulnerable but IMO vargas takes it possibly By TKO/KO Vernons only claim to fame was stealing a fight off mosely via headbutt and winning a controvertial rematch

I'm tempted to pick Forrest because of his excellent jab, very good right hand and heigh/reach, but I think Vargas would take the decision, because in '99, he could work for twelve rounds.

He might have to get up from a knockdown or two, but I think Vargas could win the close decision here.

Good fight, could go either way, but I'd give the edge to Vargas.

impossible to pick this one for me, I think Vernon was in love with his power a bit and if he got hit flush by a prime Vargas he would get discouraged like he did with Mayo - but if he stayed on his toes and fought off the jab all night he'd win a UD.
