as soon as you judged him by dismissing his argument and using the example you did thats exactly what you did.

Taylor's speed of hand & foot and more importantly natural athletic instincts allowed him to have success with Hopkins (I had Hopkins winning the first fight clearly and Taylor just edging the 2nd). Pavlik is more technical, he is more predictable and easier to read. Taylor didn't think about what he was going to do, he just did. Pavlik does not fight that way. Also, Hopkins looked more impressive against Tarver and Winky than he did against Eastman or Taylor overall, after spending 14 years cutting to make 160 I'm sure the 15lbs gain helped him quite a bit. Suggesting that because Hopkins' struggled with Taylor he will struggle with Pavlik is bad logic IMO. As you said, styles make fights, and Pavlik plays more into Hopkins' hands than Taylor did.

 

Excellent post. I think Hopkins age makes this a difficult fight to call. If the Hopkins that fought Jermain was fighting the current version of Hopkins, I'd favor Hopkins heavily. But seeing Hopkins go to the wrong corner three times during the Calzaghe fight, a fight that he took little punishment in concerns me deeply.

BHop can play keep away better than most. He can merely survive and have almost no workrate. He can do this if he feels that Pavlik is too powerful, turn it into a sparring match were he gets outpointed.

However, if he comes to win and takes chances he has a good chance of being knocked out. Bhop is facing a very tall, long armed puncher who trains for stamina and is very strong but BHop is the master at playing keep away.

it all depends on what Bhop shows up one who tastes the waters and then goes into survival mode or one who is willing to take every chance and bring it to Pavlik.

hopkins simply cant match pavlik's workrate.

saying "it all depends what bhop shows up" is an insult to his skills imo

 

He's not taking him out with a single punch but I could see Bernard being outworked so badly that the ref has to step in and stop the fight.

 

but thats what i mean.

hopkins has a terrific defence and knows hows to play it.

being a prolific thrower doesn't negate a guy like hopkins.

this is more a test about kelly's versatility than anything else.

I have all the respect in the world for BHop, but he is way past it and Kelly brings it every fight. Hop better be ready. My opinion is that Pav just outworks him like Joe and takes a SD, but I'd like to see Bernard KTFO so he gets the clue to hang them up.
