Fury & AJ not using him for stay/busy comeback fights at a time where people classed Kabayel as a mere sparring partner says it all. Guy is legit and has now proven it. He's fought as the underdog twice now and executed a near pitch perfect fight plan. He boxed long against Chisora kept it simple and boring. He crippled old man Sanchez to the body then walked him down. He boxed carefully against the ugly Russian then just cracked him a few times and dealt with him. I like him, he'll struggle against the big big boys but he deserves to fight them. He's tough as they come also but he doesn't let himself take needless punishment.
He already deserved it more for beating 2017 Chisora than for beating either of those pro dud hypejobs IMO.
Let the record show that I expressed this opinion several hours before a 2024 Chisora beat Joe Joyce as a 4/1 underdog.
In a way, the Big Puma's career is even more frustrating than someone like Ivan Dychko's - because he's been skirting the line of truly important HW fights so closely the last few years. But...still, no cigar. Yoka was a bit of a letdown opponent choice for January, and now it turns out it's Damian Knyba instead. (or if you're feeling cheeky, Dąmijąncław Kńybąjreżkowski) He needs something big sometime in the next calendar year. He can't let Usyk, Fury, Wilder, Parker and Joshua retire before having ever gotten a chance to clash with the outgoing top heavyweights of their era. Sure, there will still be match-ups to be made with the likes of Itauma, Hrgović, Wardley, Suslenkov, Huni and Torres - but none of those will carry the legacy-making weight of a torch-passing. He's running very short on time for one.
Right now I'd say they both need him almost more than he needs them for a big payday, unless either of them can finagle another go at Usyk (perish the very thought). For his sake I hope a big name from the old guard does give him the chance to build a name off them.
