A 38 year old Holmes was frustrating prime Tyson until he got KFTO

I dont know about frustrating Tyson. The fight only went four rounds and Tyson was hitting him pretty hard. Tyson didnt like the fact Holmes was running so much but Tyson had seen all that before.

It takes time for a pressure fighter to hunt down a mobile fighter like Holmes but thats what he did best close the gap and get guys to stand and trade with him.

 

I thought it was common consensus that prime Holmes would have Mike befuddled and have his head snappng back from round 4 on.... remember that although holmes was not a huge puncher, he has one of the best knockout ratios in title fights out of any champ ever. It's not totally unlikely that Holmes could stop him late.....especially in a 15 rd fight.

 

Tyson would have always beaten Holmes. Holmes didnt have the size or power to keep a prime Tyson off of him. Prime Tyson's skills against crafty boxers is often overlooked. I cant think of any other pressure fighters in history that were capable of chopping down tall mobile fighters like Tyson did, fight after fight.

Tyson most likely would have gone more rounds with a prime Holmes but I dont see Holmes ever winning.

 

Well Holmes was spot on when Mike was at his peak when he said he'd end up inside.

you've lost your mind doggy, the only cuties Tyson ever faced were lambs to the slaughter, Holmes had more skill in his pinky finger than every opponent Tyson has ever beaten. Tyson struggled against tall guys with good jabs, he'd be eating the best jab in history all night long. Holmes by wide UD or late stoppage.

 

Holmes was fat, old and retired when he fought tyson, and even then he showed moments of greatness in that short fight. Prime Holmes would have frustrated Tyson, easily won every round and eventually knocked Mike out.

 

Wow you guys must not have lived through the 80s. Biggs, Thomas, Tubbs, Tucker, Williams all solid tall mobile technicians. They may not have been Larry Holmes caliber but fighters with this type of style always give pressure fighters trouble. Tyson chopped them all down.

 

Moments of greatness? He was knocked unconscious in 4 rounds. Dont remember Holmes ever getting slaughtered like that again?

I guess he looked like prime Ali when he fought Holyfield?

Yes, I lived through the 80's; if you had, you would realize that Holmes was special and Tyson had a carefully engineered career, though I enjoyed watching Tyson as much as the next guy.

 

Losing a fight does not mean you did not have your moments. Sure the old, retired fat Holmes got KO'd but he frustrated tyson and made him look like a fool for parts of some rounds.

What a bull**** statement. Carefully engineered career.. Tyson beat everyone of the 80's and that era was full of strong technicians. Maybe not the most consistently motivated group but a solid group that Im sure were up for a Tyson fight. Tyson destroyed them all!
