A better question, who was more of a phenom Roy Jones or Tyson. I believe both these fighters are/ were a very rare talents and we are'nt likely to see another Tyson/RJJ in the near furture for a long time, so whom was more of a phenom?

    Thoughts?

well i base my conclusion not on there talent but on the impact it had on general public worldwide.
then tyson was more of a phenom. since the hw champ is the most famous boxing champ and has the most impact on general public

Thats a tough one. Both were unique phenoms, but like someone already said Tyson because of his fighting style definitely had more of an impact on the sport.

I think its worth pointing out that Mike Tyson was physically challenged in terms of height, which is more impressive i guess.

Tyson was IMO more a phenomenon.

Pre 89, his hand and foot speed were such, that the power was merely an added bonus. Tyson would of been special if he punched like Slapsie Maxie.

Tyson, because he was, at one time, a complete package. Roy was never a complete package even when fighting the handpicked opposition that made him look better than he actually was for years on end...

Not when you develop a style thats to his advantage. He often said he had the advantage, because his opponent had to punch down to him leaving themselves open to a counter, which is what made him so effective.

Tyson was more of a phenom, with particular respect to how he ran the gauntlet to conclusively establish himself as the world's best heavyweight at such a young age. Floyd Patterson needed only one match against Archie Moore to attain the championship. Mike plowed through all the other claimants in a stunning title run.

I'm actually one of Mike's critics. To this day, I'm convinced Bonecrusher Smith could have knocked him out had he only tried, and I do not believe he could have prevailed against a comebacking Foreman. His matches with Smith, Tucker, Green and Tillis lead me to think that his power and abilities were more suitably comparable to the Frazier of 1969 and 1970, and like Smokin' Joe, he left no question that he was the man for Big George to target.

Whatever I think of him, the record proves he was what boxing needed between 1985 and 1990.

This is a tough question. Both incredibly physically gifted fighters. Roy was probably overall more gifted, but Tyson was more impressive considering he was only 5'10"... with the power of a man twice his size, and the handspeed of a man half his size. But both were once in a lifetime phenoms, but I'll go with Tyson... we'll NEVER see another heavyweight like a young Tyson again.

You're not poster that throws out comments without considerable thought on the issue, so if you don't mind can you flesh out your opinion on Tyson a little bit?
I'm quite surprised to see you say Smith could have Ko'd him.
