A bit discouraged...

    yeah - i kinda figured the kid had to have some experience for the coach to even match him up against someone old like me - i think i just have to get back into the gym and get that fire in me burning again - i lost the fight mentally, which in turn made me lose physically...

    Having limited sparring partners most definitely IS an excuse. Sparring is the best way to practice and gain skill, learn to deal with pressure, slipping punches, etc. If you can, join a "pure" boxing gym. My impression is that MMA gyms aren't really expertise on a pure boxing basis, and why should they? It's only one part of their area of interest. I'm not saying this is true for all MMA guys/trainers, but many appear to me as load mouthed guys who like to show off but lack real boxing knowlegde.
