A bit of perspective on P.Williams

what's funny about this conversation is that noone is really talking about who the other guys in their top 10 p4p have beaten. R. Hatton for instance best win is over an older KZ who was similarly aged as the WW that williams just beat. Vasquez has beaten Rmarquez twice...but also lost to him. etc. I'm not saying PW has an amazing resume yet. But beating a Marg who at the same era whupped cotto, and beating WW are both impressive. I'd have him 7-10.

 

he would not be a big underdog against cotto or mosley...the odds in that fight would be even...

he may not have good resume but his overall ability is enough for him to be ranked in the top 10..he did beat margarito who beat cotto..i have him at 7-8...not yet sure on who ranks higher between cotto and williams

 

again, my question to bomber-how many of the other guys on your top10 have met the criteria you list?

 

He's jumping through divisions but he's not really the NO.1 in any division with real quality.

 

I definitely think he desreves it. I mean people had Joe calzaghe as High as number two based on a controversial decision over bernard hopkins and beating a way too old, over the hill Roy Jones. The argument that Maragrito was beaten by four other men is poor because yoy have to remember that he turned pro at 15 and that is when those early losses occured. he was a boy going aginst grown men. And wright looked solid to me last night, but when u actually see Williams perform, its just impressive, his combinations, stamina, movement, voulme, is just wathcing that unflod is why i think people are rating him so highly.

 

I have him at #10. The reaction yesterday was understandably over the top. The same way when Calzaghe beat Kessler people were claiming he was as great as Sugar Ray Leonard.

He beat Margs who was a top 10 p4p...who many considered probably 2 behind PBF at the time at 147. He certainly would have beat Cotto, Cintron. Phillips is a good fighter too. I think his win over Winky will be recognized more after Winky's next fight because Winky isn't washed up. If no one wants to fight him what is he supposed to do..he's trying to make the best fights possible, Cotto wants no part of him. Neither did Cintron, so how can he clean out a division?

 

Do you really think if he was at 147 and could get fights he wouldn't be number 1?

 

a) P4P rankings are so subjective
b) I think what people are getting excited about williams isnt so much his wins, but his high intensity output style of fighting and like stewart said last night, his ability to do things tall guys usually dont do well

 

I'm not ****ing psychic. He has to prove he can do it.
How do I know we won't see a repeat of the 1st Quintana fight.
