A bit of perspective on P.Williams

Guys like Paul Williams and Chad Dawson just need to keep winning. No one is going to give Williams respect. He has to take it. Cotto beats Mosley and he's in everyone's top 10 p4p list. Mosley beats Margo and he gets put in everyone's top 10. Williams beat Margo and went up in weight to dominate a guy who beat Mosley up twice yet people say he hasn't beat anyone. Put Mosley or Cotto or Dzinziruk in there with Williams and Williams will take the respect that people refuse to give him.

 

all fighters have to take respect. Mosley took it by knocking out Mayorga and Margarito. Cotto took it by knocking out Judah and beating Mosley. Now Williams has to take it by beating the top guys.

In boxing if you expect people to just give you respect on a silver platter then you are in the wrong sport. Even Pac doesn't get respect from alot of fans and look at his track record.

 

Winky was old and inactive. I guess his best win is Margarito :S.

 

People talk like wins over Margarito and Wright are nothing.

I don't get your post. I clearly said Williams needs to keep winning and force people to respect him. Every fighter needs to earn respect. However, some guys get it a lot easier than others. Regardless, if you keep winning against good fighters, people will have to eventually take notice.

he DEFINITELY deserves to be in the top 10... id be comfortable anywhere between 8-6.... anything above that is a little to ambitious

regardless tho.... he was already #8 on most peoples lists (respectable lists like espn)

 

my point is you're right that he has to keep winning to earn the respect of the fans but its not like he is getting a different treatment then all the other fighters. Also if you compare what people were saying about PW 2 years ago and now you will see that people are willing to give him the respect he deserves.

 

I dont think people are calling him great because of who he beat, its more because of his potential and how it seems that he could beat just about everyone from 147 - 160 lbs. Its one of those things were people are pre-maturaly building him up because of what he can accomplish. I think he should be in the top 10 P4P now with his win last night, but not yet top 5. He certainly can be though before the year is up.

 

Williams should be border line top 10.

 

It's not just what you have achieved. If it was achievement De La Hoya would still be nailed on #1.

It is how you've performed and what you've done in recent times. It's difficult to argue with beating Margarito, Phillips a weight up, and then Winky a weight up again, even throwing in a Quintana loss and win.

I don't think guys like Calderon and Hatton have been doing better recently.
