He's certainly more worthy of been p4p top 10 than Vic and Caballero IMO. I wasn't sure about him until last night but he proved he can do it at the top level. I'd rather see him fight Dzinziruk than Kirkland. That would be a good fight.
I would put Williams somewhere between 10 and 7 in my P4P list but he definitely should not be higher than guys like Pac, BHOP, Hatton, Marquez and Mosley.
:huh I have no axe to grind with P.Williams..... quite the opposite, I'm a fan of the guy... if we had more of the same type boxing would be a better place. But i just find this kind of reaction a bit silly everytime a boxer gets a decent win espcially an when an American wins the reaction is even more OTT I can guarantee if someone like Dzinziruk beat Winky last night.... there would certainly be no reaction like we are getting with Williams
regardless... p4p lists arent even about who your beating exactly... because if beating the best comp available was the situation was for deciding if your p4p or not.... wlad would be high and there woudl be others deserving as well...... p4p is like top 10 list of the hottest fighters in boxing... as far as styles go and as far as demand.... the win last night solidified paul as one of the hottest fighters in the game... which alone puts him on the list... like i said somewhere around 7 or 8 .... once he gets some bigger name wins he can raise... but he definitely deserves to be mentioned with the top 10 hottest & skilled guys in the sport (towards the bottom)
I see your angle. But its not just about the names he has on his very young career. It also has to do with him moving from one weight class to the next (hence P4P) and how he performs. The man is dominating from 147 to 160 seamlessly. I do agree that his resume isn't that great but consider Paul has only been a pro since 2004 if I'm not mistaken and he is already a 2 time champion and a top 10 contender in the 3 weight classes he fights in. I stand by he coukd easily be Top 5 P4P.
Thats fair enough, it's your opinion. But who would you put below P.Williams in your top 10..... he definatly is exiciting but in reality he has a pretty poor recent loss (in p4p terms) and only two other good wins and has only had one belt..... I just can't see who he would replace in there
Nearly. The winner of that fight will be undefeated still and either A) A very impressive boxer who can nullify very powerful and aggresive opponents B) A flawed banger capable of beating even top-level opponents. Williams beating the winner of that match would put him up to about 7 in my book. If he were to beat Pavlik or Abraham he would be even higher. Top five definitely. I honestly think Williams would beat Pavlik, who I think showed a difference in intensity in the Rubio fight compared to other fights where he fought better and more dangerous opponents. I hope I'm wrong but I think losing his '0' might've had a detrimental effect on his psyche. However, he won't have to go looking for Williams, and although I rate P-Dub's chin and heart highly, Pavlik is definitely strong and powerful nough to hurt him badly so who knows? Abraham supposedly struggles with taller fighters, but if he can 'get up' for the fight and make weight easily I think I'd make him favourite against Williams, as Williams like to fight inside. Maybe Williams will be smart and box at a distance, he has already shown that he can still rack up points against a 'Turtle' defence (and Winky's is the best in the business, more superior than King Arthur') so, again, who knows? I think Williams is best suited to 154 and 160, and I also think the likes of Cotto/Clottey/Berto/Mosley will fight each other and let Williams do his thing. There are enugh big fights at 154 and 160 for Williams, and I think he looks more comfortable there.
Thats just it..... He is not dominating anything between 147-160 apart from beating Margo he has not beaten any of the top guys in any of those divisions and only a couple top 10 guys
last time i saw he was #8 on espn... i dont even have a list on my head right now id have to sit down and look at a bunch of guys to make 1
Williams is the very definition of P4P.:deal The guy can't get a fight at 147 beats everyone at 154, he's top 5 on my list.
