Historically speaking it is, Rocky Marciano couldn’t carry my jockstrap.

Larry Holmes has never been forgiven for saying that, even by some people who are critical of Marciano.

As a proven Marciano fan myself, I feel that he said it in the heat of the moment, and his apology should have drawn a line under the matter.

I'm not sure if the comment could be called inflammatory but Duran after brutally koing Ray Lampkin yelled into the mike...." next time I will send him to the morgue!"

Janitor, not to be a dampener here at the party, but I thought of that one myself when I saw the subject. But then I remembered, he said that before the fight. I believe it was a press conference where he was about to tie Marciano's 49-0 and the promoters even brought out Marciano's kid brother to fuel it a bit. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure this was pre-fight.

Holmes brought this up before his bout with Spinks and then after as well. Holmes, if he had just tried to handle himself better, would be much better remembered as a great champion.

    Hector Camacho seems jovial.
Sure, there's always going to controversy around anyone say the n-word on live television, or saying it ever at all, and certainly by someone who isn't black ... but it's hard to see any malicious intention in Camacho's utterance.

Why was this so badly taken by everyone? Too young to remember it at the time but it doesn't seem that bad a thing to say, especially by boxers standards.

Didn't think it was that bad either. But I do agree it's probably the most famous inflammatory comment.

Considering that Camacho was a New York Rican, I don't see what the big deal is.
