A boxing question: who's better historically?

    School me, I thought he was knocking off clowns at every weight class, give or take a few pounds. I guess you maybe see Mayweather as the king of the catchweight s which is also too legit to say. Either way, they both fought at catchweight s. I'm not taking anything away from Manny. He seems to be ahead in the claim for number 1 spot. I'm actually surprised that the Mayweather tards are not ruining this thread for everybody.

    Looking at this, it's clear that Clenelo is the Catchweight King as his catchweights benefitted him by being the larger man (except against Fielding or Chavez, who were both drained to death).

    Mayweather had 2 catchweights, both of which hurt their opponents.

    Pacquiao was the smaller man against Cotto, Algieri, and Margarito (by 17 pounds). He and Marquez are the same size, so it was strange that Marquez demanded 144.

    Ok you're right man, Canelo is def the king of catchweights. Thanks for the facts, as I wasn't aware.

    No doubt Manny is more popular. He has had a great career. He has been a great ambassador for the sport. He's done a lot, I think to bring a lot of new fans to the sport.

    Mayweather is respected by many but loved by few. He too had a great career.

    I'm not sure if what Mayweather did for the sport was positive though. He was a pioneer of the current era where guys mandate catchweights, ... catch opponents at the right time, ... do everything to maximize their profit and minimize their risks.

    So...on balance I believe Manny had a greater career but Floyd was the better boxer.

    As loved as Manny was by many, he was not competitive in his fight with Mayweather.

    Floyd is the better boxer, but Manny is the better fighter.

    What does that mean? Boxing is fighting with a strict rule set. Fighting within the constraints of boxing rules, Floyd was the clear, objective winner.

    If that fought in any alley or under a bridge it might be different. The winner would probably be whoever remembered to bring a knife or a gun.

    I guess you could say that, when they let them hands go. Manny was more ready to go to war while Floyd was busy with being at a high level of anxiety so that he would never screw up. But both made mistakes lol. Floyd was almost dropped by Mosley, PAC was starched by jmm. And so on and so forth.

    The best I've ever seen with my eyes. After Roy was fighting bum after bum there was also this small kid with brittle hands hungry, willing to face anybody his name pbfm, giving rematches when necessary, improving his game the second time around. Fast on his feet, fast hands, a defensive genius with ample offence to match. He beat the best of his era and had a long reign as p4p champ. On the night he beat Henry bruseles, he mentioned he was the best fighter under 154 pounds. He said they threw Henry in there to see what it would be like for poor Cotto. He had: hard work, and dedication, tbe, the money team. Never got robbed ever in any matches from the judges. Knocked fighters out and make them bounce like Ricky Hatton. He propelled through weight classes as multiple division champ, he was on tv for the era I was a part of to luckily watch. Much respect and props.
