A boxing thrill you had,NOT at a fight ?

Thats amazing spion. It seems liek straight out of a movie! That would be awesom to sit at a bar with Mr. Frazier

 

My great-uncle was telling me over Easter how used to be a fireman in Philly and towards the end of Frazier's career he used to see him from time to time in Philly and they would chat, and that about 10 years ago he bumped into Joe again at the airport in Philly and that Joe remembered him and wanted to have another chat. He said Frazier is a very nice man.

 

i have met a number of the Philly boxers through the years. This is not to say, that I am on friendly terms with any of them. The one that stands out in my mind the most was getting to shake hands with my favorite fighter when I was a kid Willie Monroe before his fight with Cyclone Hart. I was never and still am not an autograph hound or memerobillia collector (other than dvd's0 so never really tried to encounter a whole lot of them. i was and still am more interested in watching the sport we love than meeting the participants.

For my son's I recently took them to salisbury Md. library and we got to talk with Fernando Guerrero a local fighter where we now live. he is the current WBO NABO MW champ and was friendly and posed with pictures with them and many other kids. Class act and I am interested in seing where his career goes. looks impressive so far1

 

Unbelievable... I type with envy.

 

Finally meeting Muhammad Ali in 1992. He was signing copies of his biography,written with Thomas Hauser. It was such a thrill to shake his hand at long last.

 

Last week I was at Vitaliy Klitschko - Albert Sosnowski press conference in Warsaw. I asked Vitaliy if he is planning to retire in 2010 and I asked who is a better fighter - him or Wladimir. Vitaliy had no doubt that his younger brother is better.

But the real thrill for me was, when a journalist from business journal asked Vitaliy "how do you invest money that you earn in the ring, what is the best investment?"

and Klitschko said: "The education of my children is the best investment."

One of the most powerful heavyweights ever - pure gentelman and a classy man.

 

mine was meeting sugar ray leonard when he came to sligo...and having my lad there too..
