Hello guys, I been boxing since 24. I'm 28 now and took a 10 to 11 months break because of personal commitments. I returned to practice this week after this long break and few of the kids had grown taller than me, One of the kid, I use to ask him to hit me so I can train my head movements and this kid is moving another guy in sparring who is a lot bigger than him. Few older guys are even looking down on me.. I like, i need to start all over again.. damn this break.. I'm completely demoralized. Well I'm not asking you guys any advice, its like i wanna say this to someone.. Having this within me is blowing my head off.. The stress the shame.. Man I wish I get rid of this period soon.. This kind of experience, anybody had before??
Well, I just took off like 2~3 months off too because of some personal stuff, but best thing I could do was just go back to training and train hard till I got back in shape. Don't mind other's opinion just train hard and show them that you are still willing to get back in shape and fight.
I've taken more time on breaks than I've spent training. Always come back better than before, just not able to sustain a pace for 3 rounds. Like, I'll beat up guys for a round, hold them even for a round, and then take a beating for a round. It's not really that demoralizing though, because you can always get in shape. :!: I take breaks for like a year or more then come back for 2 months and do it again. I'm the perfect picture of commitment lol. When I'm not training, I watch a ton of boxing (like, analyze it, not just watch it) and shadowbox every day. Also do some light work on the bags and stuff...My skill level doesn't decrease at all, just a little ring rust that comes off quick. Stick with it a week or so and it should come back pretty fast.
The stress and the shame of what? You had a break from a very intense sport, of course you're not going to be back at the same level as before within a few sessions. I don't understand what your issue is?
Thanks kill.. I'm always in shape.. But last few days were OK though.. Hopefully with coming sessions I should be doing better. Virus, its rather difficult to understand unless you experience what I'm experiencing. Getting whooped by guys whom you used to take lightly is not easy to digest.
You were at a certain level them u left those kids surpassed you... thats what happens to people who stick with the sport and people who take breaks...lifes tough... grow a pair
thanks for opening up my eyes.. I was completely clueless until you figured what has happened to me.. I created this thread to see if people had similar situation and how they coped with it.. And not to hear some random advise..
He's 100% right, though. You may not realize it, but you have some ego problems. Drop the ego, accept that at the moment you suck and get on with your training.
ego? Virus please.. You have taken me wrongly.. Defo.. Waht made you say like this man.. I just did not like his impolite reponses.. He had a point by why put a "grow this grow that" like a school going punk.. Cant people be decent?? Just because you are not saying all these in person you cannot be all manely and bully about the way you talk.. Come say that in my face.. And btw, a person with ego will not come out and say that a grown up kid got better of him in sparring.. Guys.. Com'on..
Lets put it this way, it's ego or you just want to whine like a little girl. "I took a year off and people got better than me! However will I cope?!" :|:|:| You could always cope by getting back to your previous level, as stated above, and stop whining like a child... I've been in your position before in different areas, I got on with it without becoming depressed and crying it out on an Internet forum. BTW, keyboard warrior ftw!!
everytime i take time off my first sesh back i throw up... if anything it teaches me not to take breaks and stay atleast semi consistent. 10-11 months does sound like a lot but you just need to gain your athleticism back mate. plug at it for a hard month get your head kicked in a few times and you will soon return the favor you have done it once before and this time its easier.. the knowledge you gained did not go away... its how old morales hung in there with all those fit young guys and how BHOP is still a champ at 49. boxing is a thinking mans game
