I found this in an old Ring.

Marty Weill's breakdown of Marciano's purse in the first LaStarza fight:

    Total Purse: $9,731.01

    Minus

    Training Expenses: $345.00
    Fee to Manager's guild: $100.00
Publicity and dressing room expenses: $230.00
    Sparring Partners: $150.00
    Al Colombo (Assistant Trainer): $350.00
    Charley Goldman (Trainer): $400.00
    Goldman's expenses: $18.30
    Gym Costs $15.00

    Total Purse, minus deductions: $8,122.71

    Simpler times, eh?

It's amazing the differences in pay days in those days compared to today. Even if you account for inflation, there is still a pretty large gap.

Basically but at the same time im pretty sure $8000 would buy a pretty big house in the 50's whereas today i dont think $65 000 would get you very far so it is relative to other things as well

The figures came from a letter from Weill's accountant. I am guessing Weill had already taken his cut, before Marciano got his cheque and breakdown of expenses.

As I am figuring that is a $20,000 fight for The Rock, and after Weill's cut and expenses the $9,700 odd left, would seem about right.

:goodthis is still a healthy profit for the day. It goes to show that there was good money outside of title fights.
