First things first: I give props to Andre Ward and his supporters, including ESB's Rumsfield who called this fight. Ward did very well and deserved to win. My prediction was wrong. However, that said, the referee was sh*t and Andre Ward is a dirty, headbutting mother f*cker. To end the fight like that, after all of Ward's clinching, Dirrell-type bullsh*t was a farce. In the later rounds, as Ward started to wear down, he just began to lead with his head and engage in the kinds of tactics Lennox Lewis used to widen Vitali Klitschko's cuts. I respect Ward's talent and heart, but the way the fight went down over its second half -- from the ref to the timekeeper to Ward -- turned what should have been a great night into a farce. Garbage.
This was a joke. I have no respect for how Ward fought in the second half of the fight and for what the ref was doing. This leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. It's not because I was wrong on the pick, either. I'll give you an example: I was DEAD wrong on Pavlik-Hopkins, but I marveled at B-Hop and felt great about the outcome. It was a great night. This was a sh*t night that stains the credibility of boxing. It looked fixed, and Ward looked like a guy who gassed who just resorted to headbutting and clinching. It's not something that leaves a good taste in your mouth, and that's bad for boxing.
at what point did ward look gassed though? Seemed to me he was fighting hard every round. Comparing this fight to anything Dirrell did i don't get. The fight was at no point dull in any way.
I agree with your sentiment on this one Paul. I was also wrong on my prediction, and have no qualms about eating my fair share of crow on it. I give props to Ward and his supporters, and tonight, the better man won. No part of this post should be construed as an excuse. Just credit on my behalf to Ward, and a sour taste left in my mouth by how it ended. The extra point earned for Ward will play a big role for him as the rest of the tournament unfolds and should basically guarantee him a spot in the semi's. Things certainly got alot more interesting after tonight's fight.
I somewhat agree. It was a good win but could have been great if you took out the headbutting and biased ref.
Great post, Rock. Thanks! :good You actually made me even more upset. I forgot about the extra point. The person I watched the fight with said "they're trying to stop the fight," like they were looking for any reason to do so. And now I know why. This makes me even more pissed off, and the actions of the ref make it even clearer to me that this was the case. Farce. Ward was good, but this thing was a joke down the stretch all around. If I were Kessler, I would be extremely pissed off. * When did Ward tire: He started to tire, it seemed, around the 9th round. That's when Kessler seemed to be able to start really measuring him. Ward was like Dirrell in terms of his clutching and dirty tactics. I don't think Dirrell headbutted though. That's the analogy I was drawing, particularly the grabbing.
What extra point would that be? The one you dont get for a fight that goes to the cards because you opened a guys eye up with a headbutt?
You're a clown. The headbutt didnt land until the 8th round, by then Ward had won every single round except for one. Any intelligent boxing fan could see Kessler was going to get ass raped tonight. Dirrell ass raped Carl Crotch and if not for a blantant robbery the 2 youngters would be 2 and 0. Why dont you talk about Crotch hitting Dirrell behind the head a billion times, or the fact that Ward was owning Kessler throughout the fight even before the headbutt,. Excuses make you look like an idiot. And no, Ward didnt get an extra point. The fight was stopped due to the headbutt and went to the cards, which were compiled during the first 8 rounds of Wards dominance.
Well done to Ward. He dominated the no 1 supermiddleweight in the world tonight. Kessler looked lost in the ring.
I don't know how anyone can compare how Ward fought tonight and how Dirrell "fought" for 2/3 of the Froch fight. Since when is it illegal to fight on the inside? Ward realized Kessler was clueless there and simply dogged him for it.
The little matter of the tournament these two gentlemen are fighting in; an extra point is rewarded for any matter of stoppage victory. Ward gets 3 points now, tying him with Abraham for the lead, instead of the 2 awarded for a points win.
kessler doesnt know how to lose in this manner, joe out boxed him...andre ward beat him up...the boxer bullied the slugger and he couldnt do **** about it...no crying in boxing, get over it man, you guys are something else, a bunch of whiny bitches cause your boy took an ass whipping
