I'm the national Junior champ my weight has become an issue for me I've shot up 5 pounds and my coach wants me to go back down in weight being that I'm only 5'11 he wants me at 155. This morning I had an appointment with a pediatrician who told me something weird it just blows my mind he said that a calorie is a calorie it doesn't matter where it comes from it's a calorie he said that if I chose to eat a bag of potato chips or an apple it does'nt matter because it was a calorie.
Is there any truth to this can we has boxers eat anything we want as long as we don't over consume calories so I can eat waffles with syrup and whipped cream on top instead of having to eat the usual oat meal?

a calorie is a calorie + whatever other nutritional value is in there

you can get calories from waffles but you are also getting the other things inside it too which arent good for you.

If you ate an apple and some lettuce say 500 cal worth at the end you would be full.

if you did the same with the potato chips (500 cal) you would still be hungry afterwards because you just put junk in your body not anything with actual nutrition.

so yes, you can eat waffles with whipped cream but you'll do nothing but steal nutrients from your body and start to crave more food.

eat your apples, hope this helps

    (not a doctor).

    I like this post

I used to cut weight, the best thing is to find foods that make you full but not have to eat a lot of.

If you work hard enough in the gym its ok to eat garbage once in a while to reward yourself

A calorie is the exact same value no matter where it comes from

Technically a calorie is a calorie, but it's what the calories make up that counts i.e. 1g protein or carbs = 4 calories. 1g fat = 9 calories.

BTW, eating "healthy" food doesn't fill you up more than "unhealthy" foods. Being full relates to how much room is taken up in your stomach not food nutritional value.

Not only that, but OP, eat 2000 cals of NUTRITIOUS food and then eat the same amount but of FAST food and you will feel the difference!

    Your body will feel terrible!

Spoke with the same Doctor that I seen earlier by phone. Telling him that perhaps I missed something, after telling him about my doubts about the oat meal vs waffles, syrup and whipped cream meal. He curtly replied that the difference between athlete A. Who ate the oat meal vs athlete B. Who devoured the Belgium waffles is the arrogance of A. I've got another specialist appointment this Wednesday to go before they put me on program. I'll post afterwards.

I don't get where you're going with this. He stated a calorie is a calorie no matter the source (which is a fact) and that blew your mind? Now you're questioning his credibility in some way?

Are you taking issue with his advice or what?

Virus all my life I've been programmed to eat my veggies, my parents are vegetarians so this whole idea of just being able to eat what I want is mind-boggling. Not that I'm questioning him, can I eat cake if I want to? Is this doctor Spock's philosophy?

A calorie is a calorie, but waffles with whipped cream and syrup are obviously going to be high in calories and aren't going to be satiable compared to oat meal.

I don't know why you'd speak to a doctor about this anyway, speak to someone who specialises in this area (a registered sports dietician).

It's common practice is what I'm told. Don't really understand how hgh benefits me but the other will make me recover quicker from workouts plus there's claims it can make me faster. I have full faith in the Doctor.
