Brothers, I think we should form a campaign to ensure that Pacquiao fights at 140 again before he retires. Above all, he must fight Floyd first and foremost. But whether it's before or after that fight, I think it's crucial to Pac's legacy that he fights at light-welter again at least once. I have been thinking this for a while, but it really hit home when I read this section in The Ring magazine, June 2010 edition: "Despite Manny's amazing run of victories, we should not forget that most of those fights were against men who were naturally larger than him. He is forced to eat five times a day, as well as swallow numerous protein drinks, to maintain the pounds he needs to fight as a welterweight. It is a regimen that even his strength and conditioning coach, Alex Ariza, said could eventually be bad for Pacquiao's liver. Pacquiao has been winning in such dominant fashion that people forget the punishment his body is taking by competing against opponents who frequently come into the ring 20 pounds heavier than Manny's best fighting weight. Although he plays a superhero in his latest movie, Wapakman, Pacquiao is just as human as the rest of us, and his body can only stand so much stress before it begins to break down." I agree that Pac must stay at 147 to secure the Mayweather fight, because Floyd both won't and can't drop to meet him in a catchweight or at light-welter, as we saw how he failed to make the weight limit for the Marquez (mis)match. But we must see him at 140 again at some point, surely. I dunno about you guys, but I think Pac looked incredible against Hatton. Hatton had never been beaten at 140, and had walked through the best punches of Kostya Tszyu there. It had taken Floyd 10 rounds of landing cleanly on Hatton to get Ricky out of there - and even then that was achieved at a weight that Luis Collazo had already proved that Hatton was not as comfortable or effective at. And? Pac blazed through him in less than 6 minutes in one of the most explosive performances in recent boxing history, taking The Ring title as he did so. Pac makes himself big enough to beat top welters like Cotto and Clottey, but how good could he be if he was allowed to stop overeating, to relax and train to a natural, comfortable fighting weight?? There are plenty of quality dangermen at 140 just now - Bradley, Alexander, Maidana, Khan. These fights could be made, and would give us a chance to see the very best Manny Pacquiao, before he rides off into the sunset to right the wrongs of the political system in the Philippines. Whether the Pac-Floyd fight gets made now at 147, or if we have to wait longer for them to come to terms, what Pacquiao fan wouldn't like to see him fight someone like Timothy Bradley at light-welter? So, are you with me???
The most worthwhile fight for Pacquiao, win lose or draw, is Mayweather. If he is serious about having just one fight before he retires, then that's the fight he has to fight, and doing otherwise would be something of a cop out. I'd love to see Manny tear through the 140 division, but he's not getting any younger and will probably have less focus/time for boxing now that he's been elected. First and foremost, he has to take on Mayweather. If he decides to keep fighting after that, then sure, he can fight the 140 pounders. But that is a distant, distant, distant second in my mind.
I dunno man. 140 is probably his strongest weight but if he fights Floyd and wins, anyone at 140 would be a step down. If he loses against Floyd then it's different but still, he doesn't have many more fights left. I think if he beats Money at 147 he should fight Paul Williams. I think he should have no more than 3 fights and then retire. Floyd obviously, Williams and someone else. Maybe he could fight at 140 once we know who the top guy is at 140.
I would like to see him fight at 140 again sure, his 2 fights at lightweight and light welter where in my opinion as good as he has ever looked, unfortunatly i think pac will be looking for big money fights and the only one at the moment i could see him fighting at 140 would be JMM 3 which i have no interest in. If he moves down to fight bradley and alexander then i'm all for that as long as the floyd fight is made at some point in time as well
I'll say this much: if a fight with Floyd can't be made, there's probably better fights at 140 then 147, as the only other fight worth talking about at 147 is probably Mosley, and with the way Shane just looked at against Floyd, even that has lost most of its luster.
Yes. If you're not doing what floyd thinks is right, then you shouldn't be boxing. Athletic commissions and doctors are all fools and idiots.
