I can't seem to find a definitive answer on whether eating a can of tuna everyday is harmful for you due to its mercury levels. Some say a can every day is absolutely bad for you, others say it's not bad for you at all, and still others say it's only bad if you eat a ridiculous amount per day, like ten cans or so...

The thing is, I'll be working full-time at an office job this summer. I plan to go to the gym early in the morning, then go right to work from there. I was thinking of packing a can of tuna and a couple slices of bread to make a sandwich as my sort-of staple lunch item, because:

    A) I take public transport so I need something that will travel well on hot days.

    B) Quick easy way to get a good dose of protein (I want to put on some muscle mass over the summer. Not going overboard or anything.)

    C) I think tuna is ****ing delicious.

    D) I have a good history with tuna. When I was about 18 I went on this weightlifting kick, wasn't bulking up at all. Then I started eating a can of tuna everyday and put on a good 20 pounds over the course of 5-6 months (which is a lot for my scrawny ass).

So what's your verdict on eating a can of tuna every day? If you think it's a bad idea, some alternative suggestions would be good.

If they all say different things I personally would not worry much about the mercury, but then again I'm known to be a stubborn twat. Not that I would eat tuna everyday, I like variation.

I read it both ways too, I also eat a can of tuna a day, as well as capsules of Omega-3 in the morning. After everything I read I came up with a conclusion, everything we put in our body has some risk, our meats(mad cow, bird flu etc...) produce(chemicals they spray on there to keep the insects away), you name it, so tuna is no worse, if anything better than most of the **** we put in our bodies.

Tuna is an amzaing source of protein, 32-35 grams in each can, as well as low in fat at 2- 2.5 grams of fat, as well as omega 3, in which studies show that it helps the heart, as well reducing the the inflamation caused by lifting or sports. Tuna is an overall great food meal.

FDA advisory guide lines say you should not have more than 12 ounces of canned tuna a week or 6 ounces if it's albacore or yellow fin tuna.

I like tuna but could not eat if everyday. I need variety in my diet.

I eat canned tuna most days because it is cheap.

I just stick it in my soup.

    Yum.

I cant answer this sorry - I have no background at all on nutrition. Common sense tells me it wont be harmful though.

    However - I had to pick up the following comment;

    Brilliant!

    :rofl :good

I wonder what FDA guidelines say about protein intake, hmm?

It is not worth debating over tuna.

If you want something else that won't spoil for variety you can boil 3 eggs instead of tuna. I think one a day is to much, although tuna is great for mass..

3 eggs is only like 18- 20 grams of protein. A small can of tuna can have close to double that without the saturated fat.. Should limit tuna intake, mercury can make you crazy, no seriously.. I've read it lends itself to causing dimensia and likely wont help your prospects of elzheimers.

RDA for protein is 0.83g per kg of body mass. I have more than that before midday.

I have been getting sick of tuna recently. But I tried sticking it in soup like you said and it was delicious. Thanks great tip. :good
