For those of you who keep saying Gamboa is a knockout waiting to happen, here's an avatar bet. Feel free to line up below. I'll bet that Gamboa wins one of the four major belts before he gets knocked out. Put your money where your mouth is and sign up below if you're so confident. I suspect those of you who actually know how to rate a chin won't be taking me up on this challenge. It should be blatantly obvious that the reason he keeps getting knocked down is because of his footwork, not because of his beard. Will he get knocked down again soon? Probably - but it's because his unorthodox offensive style leaves him off balance a lot of the time, not because his chin is no good. He's been knocked down a total of three times - once was an incorrectly ruled slip, once was a flash knockdown, and once was off of an elbow where he was still barely buzzed and able to fight the rest of the round just fine. I promise the avatar won't be anything too insulting - I'll just find a good picture of Gamboa for you to take as your avatar. So who wants to take me up on this one? EDIT - I realize that before he wins a belt is a sucker's bet, since he'll probably win a belt in his next three fights. Thus I'll up the ante and say he won't get KOed in his next 5 fights. If his chin is as bad as some of you make it out to be, he should get KOed within the next 5 fights, facing the calibre of competition he's been facing.
Like I sed once before. it is estimated that 93% of fighters who fight at a top level get knocked out. this is not to say that 93% of all fighters are a knockout waiting to happen becuase it all depends on who you face. Gamboa may well get knocked out in his career a few times buh I think he will win a title first and then get knockeout.
LOL. That's not much of a challenge. Almost all fighters get KOed more than once in their career. For all I know, he could try moving to welterweight, or keep fighting way past his prime. This would be a fool's bet. If you think he's a KO waiting to happen, then put your money where your mouth is and say he'll be KOed SOON. Roy Jones was a KO waiting to happen and nobody did it for a decade. DLH was a KO waiting to happen and nobody did it for 15 years. I'll even go as far as to say he won't get KOed in his next 5 fights, since he's likely to win a title within his next 3. :blurp
To be honest getting KOd aint the worst thing that can happen to a fighter. Say Gamboa does get KOd early on, he just learns to keep his hands up more and stop relying so much on reflexes and theoretically it makes him a better fighter, just a smaller name
Most fighters have chins that are shaky to one degree or another. The question is HOW shaky. Gamboa's looks more questionable than most.
It's not much to say he won't be KO'd in his next 5 fights, considering we don't know who he'll fight, and considering he's fighting in a shite division now that Guerrero and Linares have moved up, and it was lacking even before they moved up.
I'm not a hater....but I'll take this bet only b/c his camp seems to be a little ahead of themselves. I think they will end up putting Gam in there with the likes of guys like Valero or Linares too quickly. I believe it was his camp/handlers that were calling out PAC towards the middle part of last yr....so with that indication I feel they will end up putting Gam in there with someone with more experience and able to handle the style Gam has now. I'm in. If you loose.....I don't care. You can keep your avatar. I don't mind having Gamboa as an avatar one way or the other.
That's not a fair bet. Of course Gamboa can win a title without getting knocked out if he fights some weak ass title holder such as Cassius Baloyi or Nicky Cook which he probably will.
Bingo. I would take the bet if Gamboa would compete in some deep divison, but at Feather and Superfeather are some very beatable champs, so chances are high he will win a belt. I still think he will get knocked out as soon as he fights some high calibre opponent. He wouldnt grab a belt at 122 or 135.
If you don't think 5 fights is fair, then I'll bring it back up when he fights a "high caliber opponent". It's ridiculous to say they're keeping him away from punchers like Khan though. The guy he fights tonight has 18 KOs in 29 fights. His last opponent had 16 KOs in 25 fights. De Jesus had 17 KOs in 20 fights. Seeger had 21 KOs in 30 fights. Jimenez knocked Mike Anchondo out cold, and usually fought at a higher weight class. The guy he's supposed to fight next, Elio Rojas, has a 65% KO rate. He was supposed to fight Cheo Rojas before he pulled out, who KOed Celestino Caballero. There's nothing in his record to indicate that his handlers are protecting him from punchers.
Five fights then. Be a man. I've noticed Mr. Chinchecker himself Zakman has already posted in the thread without taking me up on this. The fact that nobody's jumping on this reflects the fact that a lot of people here like to talk big and echo what some other people are saying, but don't truly believe that Gamboa's chin is bad enough that he'll get KOed by anyone less than an elite fighter. I have no idea who he'll fight in the next 5 fights either. Like I said in another post, there's nothing to indicate he's being protected from punchers. It's a gamble either way, but if he's such a KO risk, then considering the level of fighter he's already going against, he should get KOed in his next 5 fights if he has such a horrible china chin. China chinned frauds don't need to fight the best to get KOed. Just ask Amir Khan and Audley Harrison.
:yep depends on who he's matched to fight like for instance say he would of stayed at 130 and was matched with robert the ghost or say the ghost stayed at 126 with his belt intact. the ghost would obliterate that ass
