Let's say a popular Champion (but not a huge draw) like Ward, Sexy or Dawson makes 1-1.5 Million Dollar for a title defense.

What is the actual money that he takes home after everybody is paid? (promoter, trainer, conditioner, IRS etc)???

i would say that ward takes something like 500000 home. dawson gets the same. martinez makes about 1.5. froch about 2, kessler about 3.5. abraham made like 2.5 per fight. huck makes 1 mil right now. but then you have the big boys like the kbros, chavez, manny, haye, bradley, marquez, floyd and cotto make like >5 per fight

well tax in the uk is 50% i think its more in the us 53 or 63? trainer fee is anywhere from 10-25% varies alot, manager is useualy a flat 5 or 10% and the promotor is a max 30%, even though king had his 50% + expenses. 10 fights at 300,000 is still 3m, and thats more than the average guy will make so they do quite well.

audley harrison has banked over £5m from his career, and he is more of a "name" oponent than anything else.

So let's say The purse is 1 million.

    30% the promoter : 700k left
    10 % Manager : 600 k left
    15 % trainer, conditioner: 450 left

    35% taxes: 290k

    Stil a lot of money.

5-6 paychecks like that and ur set up for life

Its not big cash to be honest. And there's so little of it going around that if you're a guy like Berto who gets picked well before his time. Then you can basically make that kinda money for 5-6 fight and only have like 2 of them against good fighters. All that while other guys head line on ESPN for like 10K a fight. There is such a disparity in this game its mind blowing sometimes.

290k for 5-6 fights is enough to give a smart man who invests it well a modest to decent living for the rest of his life. Problem is most boxers are pretty much only good at spending their money and have no idea how to invest it. Props to the ones that do.

Well first off your premise is a bit wrong. The Promoter gets paid first and then cuts the boxer a check, not the other way around with 99% of the guys in the sport.

So let's use Boxer A vs Boxer B, and just look at Boxer A. Promoter(s) for A and B come together to make a fight. The entire pool is expected to be $2 Million, so first off the promoters split that between their camps, so $1M to A's promoter and $1M to B's promoter. A's promoter then cuts up his half of the pool, taking say 20% for himself, and the remainder will go to A's camp. So now it's $800K for A's people. A then has to pay his trainer, now depending on the size of the sum this can be a huge amount, like 10-15%(that percentage generally drops the larger the overall paycheck is). But let's say 10%, so now that leaves A's camp(minus the trainer) $720K. But now he has to pay his nutritionist, his cutman if his trainer doesn't handle that(if he did the percentage could be more), his strength coach, pay on the hotel/house he used during training camp and that's another $80K, then add in taxes which would be taken from the $800K paycheck and those could be in the range of 25% which would be $200k. So now that's $720K minus $280K, which equals $440K. So more than half the money is gone before getting home, and remember, this is before these guys pay on their car note(s), mortgage(s), insurance, child support, alimony, and when its all said and done, that $1M payday ends with a guy having less than $50K in his pocket, with even less hitting the retirement fund. Young boxers, the second they go HBO/Showtime and begin getting real paydays should be living well within their true means and socking most of that "ending" pay into their 401K's, IRA's, CDs. Bonds, etc.

Depends on who you work with, so manny gets 22 mill

arum gets 30%, roach 10%, ariza 3%, and buboy probably 1%,
he gives away alot of money unlike mayweather who works with his family.
