but as we know, Ouma was wayyy too small to win this fight. And Lacy was so shot that its almost unreal. No disrespect to Jeff Lacy, but he was never the same after that brutal Calzaghe fight.
Spinks was also wayyyy too small and still only lost by Split decision.
So all we have is questionable opponents or very close wins.

Seems like a nice guy and had a decent run, but no. I've never seen a fighter get so excited about getting knocked down by a mediocre ' prospect ' ( last night ) to win, and brag about it.

Great Thread. Questionably beating Hopkins is definitely enough to be a HOF-er.

Also, Joe Calzaghe is the GOAT for the same reason.

Hopkins can take a guys mind and break it. Ali did to Foreman, straight up ruins a man. Look at what happened to Keith Holmes, 6-1 in title fights prior to the Hopkins bout, never heard of again. Joppy, 11-2 in World title fights prior to Hopkins, he doesn't win a fight of note for the rest of his career. Segundo Mercado, went from managing to rangel a number 2 spot by the IBF prior to the Hopkins fights to getting a gift draw against a guy 1-32. There are things you never do in boxing and one of them is underestimate the Hopkins effect. Just you watch, poor Jean Pascal is going to come apart at the seams in 2 or 3 years.

it is not that easy to get in the HOF.. There are only certain amounts of guys who get in. The problem is some guys who deserve it more seem to be ignored for the popular guys who had less skills. But the real greats usually get in. Taylor's career right now is not HOF. Not by a long shot. You know the ones who will get for sure. Oscar,Bernard,Shane,Floyd,Pacman, Tito etc.

I don't think that is enough. One main guy he beat and gets him HOF. Then Barkley should be HOF also. And Barkley beat Hearns, had a war with Duran, won 3 world titles. But I don't think Barkley should be in the HOF. He beat my favorite guy for sure, but I don't think one great fighter on your resume gets you in the Hall or should . Otherwise a lot of guys would get in for that reason. It should be proving it against different fighters at that level. That is like saying Junior Jones should get in because he beat Barrera.

well thats all true. But that was a young Hopkins destroying his opponents. (and also fouling the **** out of them e.g. against Keith Holmes)
but the Hopkins who fought Taylor didnt hurt him a lot. Watch the fights, it was a tactical boxing match. it wasnt like Hopkins vs Glen Johnson where he took his opponent apart piece by piece.
so no way did Hopkins really "destroy" or "hurt" (badly) Jermain Taylor and therefore shorten his career.
