Come on, every boxing fan knows the CW division has been a wasteland for years. Haye's a talented fighter, but at HW he's a media creation, an illusion. Either Klit would beat him badly. And I don't think he'd do all that much better against Povetkin, Chambers or Chagaev.
All well and reasonable when it comes to looking at his heavweight credentials however his power has carried up along with his speed + his chin looks steadier..only time will tell. However for people to call him a cherry picker is ludicrous, the guy fought everyone bar IBF champ cunningham at cruiser and he couldnt sell a ticket in a garden shed!
You're right. It wasn't Haye's fault that the CW division was shallow. He beat all the top fighters, and he would have put Cunningham to sleep. But I still think as a HW that he's an illusion. It's certainly fair to call him a cherrypicker at HW. He's backed out of fights with both Klit brothers in favor of Valuev and Ruiz. That's embarrassing.
To be fair to haye, the well documented Setanta tv problems caused the first Klit fight to go down the tubes(whether he admits that or not) and Vitali 'apparently' was offering very unreasonable terms with various binding stipulations so i coould understand haye going after the weaker champ to pick up a belt. Ruiz being the mandatory means he wasnt in a position to call the shots however if he gets past ruiz then the Wlad fights looks odds on next. Both men in recent days have suggested so. Im a haye fan but hell time will tell if he can swim or sink at HW.
Mock was a SMW. Haye was tight at the weight, and that often weakens the body making knockdowns easier to achieve, It was a well placed shot but anyone can get caught. But Haye did get up and score a KO Yes Haye may well have got hurt against Thompson, but his eyes were clear when the towel was thrown in. But you make it sound like it was a beat down from start to finish, which it wasnt. Haye took a gamble early in his career which didnt pay off, but fair play in taking the chance Erdei reasonable defences yes, Im not saying elite but reasonable in Garay twice, Sahnoune, and Ulrich. But lets not forget Erdeis fight with Fragomeni was a close sd. Hayes was a hard fought but clear win by KO Even if Mac was a creation, no one else has beaten him as convincingly as Haye Barrett - yes it may well have been a knockdown but once again Haye got up to win and in better style than the more accomplished Valuev The Holyfield - Valuev fight was a bit better to watch than Hayes but as to how clearly either of them won (which Holyfield didnt) is down to interpretation as to what you like, ie one report I read on Haye - Valuev had Haye as almost a shut out (I thought Haye was a close winner. Awful fight to watch) But a record of 24 fights 23 wins 21 KOs and winning Ring, WBC, WBA, WBO CW titles and the WBA HW title he cant be that bad, I mean if hes so bad when being put down by a smaller fighter, how come alot of the other bigger fighters havent managed to beat him more often?
He backed out of the Wlad fight because Setanta was about to go bust and he would have made a fraction of what he would have otherwise earned. He never signed a contract with Vitali because they didn't agree terms. By ESB's standards you could, with a straight face, argue that Vitali deliberately offered Haye a poor deal and is therefore ducking him. With the route that Haye eventually took, he stands to earn millions rather than hundreds of thousands from fighting one or both of the K brothers. He's also made himself a much bigger name amongst casual fans after beating Valuev and promoting the fight as well as they did. Assuming Wlad beats Chambers and Haye beats Ruiz, this fight is far bigger than it would have been last July IMO. If anybody truely believes Haye has no intention of fighting Wlad and Vitali they need to give their head a wobble. Boxers fight for money first, legacy and reputation are a distant second. Even if Haye was scared or didn't believe he could win (and I don't believe that's the case) the fights will still happen because there is big money to be made. The notion of fighters ducking each other may genuinely apply in certain cases where little reward is involved for a high risk fight but that is clearly not true of Haye v either Klitschko
Fair points, but if Haye had beaten either Klitschko he'd be a boxing megastar, and would be making much more money than he's making now. It doesn't quite pass the smell test.
I'm going to laugh my arse off when one of the "legit" heavies finally catch Haye and he stands there and looks at them. All of his knockdowns have been balance related. You lot are clutching at straws. Haye even talks up his weak chin ffs.
True enough, but who is he going to fight? Haye and one or both of the Klitschkos is about as good as it gets in this god awful HW division so it makes sense to build these fights so that everybody makes as much money as possible. Us fans may not like it but that's the way boxing is now. It's completely motivated and driven by money and everything that's gone on with the Haye/Klitschko situation is symptomatic of that. Nobody is ducking anybody and the fights will happen :bbb
I hope you're right. I have a funny feeling these fights won't happen, but I hope to be proven wrong.
David Gaye has yet to taste full leather in the heavyweight division. When he does he's gonna fall like the sack of **** he is! :scaredas:
Beat down? What? Watch the fight again. It was close enough that the result spoke volumes. Barrett is a non-entity. Period. He's a small, weak 'HW' who even in his prime many years before was a non-factor. Barrett couldn't even jump over the ring ropes without hitting the canvas, fer christ's sake!
who has anyone in this era realy beat there arnt that many greats around now and the elite today is **** poor in comparison to the past ..............right? haye beat all that were there to beat he struggled through some and lost one hes still the most exciting aswell as skilfull fighter in the haevyweights areola to fat , adamek green (still seems small aswell) then povetkin, some esten european guy , anothe eastern european guy, some over hyped lilly liverd yank ........ so on and so forth........
