:goodWell done and when you start sparring just stick to these 3 rules starting off. CHIN DOWN, HANDS UP and Try to Relax. Enjoy

Of all the sports I've ever partaken in, boxing in my experience is easily the most zapping on energy.

I'm nearly 32 and I still imagine myself doing my ringwalk to certain tunes at the MGM!!

I've only been boxing for 18 months after being a casual fan for years but now I watch as much as I possibly can and I really think that the sparring and training I've done has opened (and closed!) my eyes to it all. I understand so much more and can empathise with a fighter far better.

I absolutely love it, and would also reccomend it to anyone, fair play mate well done.

Best training you can do! Wait till you spar and then your respect level will really deepen.

Thats why i hate ignorant **** wits on here that know nothing about boxing slagging boxers off. They have no idea about the sport.... and i mean no idea!! Cant stand people that slag boxers off, the same people that would wet themselves just lacing up gloves and looking at the ring. :thumbsup

    Great thread.

I'm 24 and never done any form of Boxing, but looking to go down to a local gym in the next week or so and try it out. Looking forward to it but also a bit nervous as I know it's gonna be tough!

I wish I had taken it up years ago. What with my first kid due in a month and the fact that any remaining spare time is taken up running a football team I'm going to have to all but give it up again.

It has done wonders though for my enjoyment of the sport.

Couldn't agree more re poster flagging off boxers (unless they really deserve it I..e fraudley)
It's been on my to do list for tears, but I suppose I was worried I'd look like a wanker. Now got to go and buy some good gloves. Any recommendations for decent training gloves? My left hand needs good protection though, as I broke it in my younger wild years, and it's killing today.
    Hope this thread inspires!

I have a pair of brown BBE and a cheaper pair of Adidas, both have been fine but I prefer the BBE. I think they set me back about £55.

You know what, your advice is simple, but 100% spot on. Exactly what I was told to do and as soon as I relaxed my jab had more snap, and my 1-2 punches became quicker. The hands started coming down a bit once I started getting tired though!
