Damn, time flies. I remember reading about the build-up, then watching it. Epic fight. Boxing was so good back around that time. I LOVED the 00's, such an underrated era. Lots less cherry picking! Pavlik was a game son-of-a-gun! That was ultimately his downfall. Shame he and AA never got it on. Would have been an epic fight!
Man I think a prime Pavlik gives a 35 year old G all he wants and probably more. Great fight and one I too am not sure Golovkin wins.
No... he was brought up as a feared beast because of the dozen or so top professionals that constantly praised his abilities in the gym, and the other half a dozen that blatantly ducked him in the ring in his prime. But dont let that stop the revisionist history taking place here.
Yep. His fight with Miranada where his jaw was completely broken was a slugfest! I'd have loved to have seen a prime GGG in that division back then. Miranda was also a beast om his day, too.
Taylor and Khan are so similar to me. Great skills. If they only knew how to use the skills with a gameplan. But they always were in reach of a punch in a fight and were knocked out.
It's a real shame Pavlik's career went the way it did, he was a damn exciting fighter to watch, relentless pressure, solid jab, fantastic right hand and power. The way he just broke down and overwhelmed Miranda was impressive. Most guys that tall should box and move but Pavlik just set his feet and threw and got such great leverage on his shots, to see a guy with his dimensions walk through supposed punchers was scary. The pace he set as well just sucked the air out of fighters, he never stopped punching it seemed he was always looking to hurt you, every second of every round. Him and GGG would of been a fantastic fight. Both men looking to back the other up, both looking to impose their strength and power and work rate on the other. I think Golovkin's durability would of been the difference, he could take what Pavlik dished out longer than Pavlik could take GGG's. It would of been a war and wouldn't surprise me if we saw Golovkin hurt, Pavlik hit hard and threw a lot of hard shots and Golovkin is easy to hit, at some point all those shots would of mounted up. My god we missed a possible classic here, such a shame.
What the hell, Khan and Pavlik are nothing alike. Pavlik was a relentless pressure fight with huge power, sure his defence was poor like Khans and he could be hurt and stopped but come on Khan has one of the worst chins I've ever seen and his style is nothing like Pavlik's.
