He was, but it would be a very rare fighter who could have done that to peak Foreman.
And without the holding & pulling his head down often, even extremely wily & tough Ali might not have one it.
I also never saw him at all overweight in his first career.
He was heavier before hgis peak, when Saddler was not having him weight draining, the 230's looked fine for him.

It was the psychological issues & lack of confidence in his style that reduced him.

Ali would win the title in any and every era.
Foreman I think wouldn’t get passed a prime Louis. And maybe loses to Johnson, Dempsey, Marciano, Liston, Lewis, or Wladmir.

If you want to see how difficult it is to keep the title out of the hands of a high caliber fighter, who is absolutely bent upon getting it, look at Jersey Joe Walcott.

He was born in the same year as Joe Louis, and got about every shitty break imaginable.

Even Louis couldn't be everywhere for all time!

Big statement seeing he couldn't spark a ring rusty Fury or a crappy Stiverne the first time especially in light of the fact neither Ali or Foreman were ever "sparked" despite both facing masive punchers and great fighters.

Foreman was all wrong for Dempsey, Frazier was harder to hit than Dempsey, look how many jabs Ali missed v Joe no way would Ali have missed that much against Dempsey he was easier to hit and Foreman would be too big, long and powerful for him, George`s offensive tools were far better than Willard`s who wouldn`t have taken off Lyle what George did. Lewis was too easy to hit with straight punches and Foreman had a much better chin than Lennox.

Ali didn`t lose any match before his lay-off, there wasn`t a Vietnam war in every decade.

He has the pop to do it, whether he finds the punch is a different matter entirely, I guess it was quite easy to misinterpret what I was saying though. I'm not sure either guy faced a puncher that carried such enormous power through all 12/15 rounds and I am a huge Frazier fan!

Ha,Ha,Ha, half decent chin? you are talking about Lewis's chin right? You know the guy that got starched by Rahman and McCall. Joe Frazier would pressure him to death, and chop him down, Smokin Joe Frazier by TKO in the 14th

I do not think Foreman loses to any smaller swarmer, with the possible exception of Tyson.
Yes Dempsey is too easy to hit, & Marciano likewise would not have the size to handle a great slugger.
    The others might beat him.

The only HW I would favor over both is Vitali

I'll concede that Wilder's power is legit and spectacular.

But he's also raw, clumsy and downright amateurish at times. His power makes him a threat but he's an ass whipping or spectacular KO waiting to happen. I'd massively fancy Ali's chances for the former and bet my life on Foreman for the latter.

That's a great question actually, I can only think of two champs I would pick that couldve beat the champ would have been against Lennox but only when he peaked after Emanuel taught him how to jab.

Come to think of it Larry Holmes would have definitely beat foreman, and would have possibly beaten prime Ali, his jab was alot sharper anyways.

Oh I'm sorry, correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Fraizer rocked and dropped in the first Bonavena fight twice, Fraizer's chin was nothing special (granted it was better than Lewis'), do you see Fraizer with standing the beatings that Ruddock, Grant or Golota took, I don't. And even if you do look at the Morrison fight, that's a very good look into this style match up. Lewis is Favourite and has a 80% chance of winning

Agreed on basically everything accept Holmes vs Foreman, I think that's a very close 50-50 fight
