Are any of the Tyson experts out there familiar with this? Going from his first professional bout, to his last - which head trainers did he work with, and from when exactly?
Cus Damato/Atlas...then on to too Rooney after Atlas was fired being named head trainer after those two around about 87. He had knuckle head best friends after Spinks fight ( ironically named Jay BRIGHT )and then Richie Giachetti was there for Tillman Stewart and the second ruddock fight and Holyfield 2 ,Rich Holmes former trainer. Giachetti was competant and stayed on Tyson which you needed to do at times. Ronnie shields was Tysons head trainer for Lewis ,not sure why? Could see in Tysons fight it was not exactly a disciplined fight after the first rnd. i didnt have time to research to pin point exact the whens right now but a few minutes ...but this is close. i also know he worked with freddie Roach briefly but not sure if he was ever in his corner ...i dont remember that.
After the bite fight, he got rid of Giachetti and brought in Tommy Brooks. He had Jeff Fenech in his corner for the Mcbride fight.
Tyson changed trainers like he changed moods. Atlas as a kid, Rooney, Bright, Snowell, Giachetti, Brooks, Fenech, all varying in degrees of coaching ability, and all mutual in the fact I don't think Tyson really gave a toss for any of them once D'Amato was gone.
Hilariously enough Roach actually had an ancient Tyson looking pretty good in his penultimate fight until Mike's knee gave out. obviously no stamina for a full 12 but for a few rounds he looked better than he had done in years. he seemed energized and willing to make a bit of effort with Roach but it was all too late, his body was gone by then. the Williams fight was hard to watch, it was poetic in the sense he strung the fans on for years with his comebacks but the one time he seemed up for it his leg collapsed, it was written all over his face afterwards, he wanted to put on a show that night, with Ali there supporting him to.
Maybe this question should have its own thread, but is there any actual evidence that Tyson had been training less regularly leading up to the Douglas fight? (I like to see evidence for things even if they already strike me as plausible.)
