If you were a fighter heading into a major bout, which of these four men would you pick to be your trainer and be in your corner? I respect all of these people. I think I would go with Eddie Futch. How about you?

Eddie Futch, hes the man with the master plan, as gay as that sounds, it makes sense..

I guess if you were tall for your weight class and had good fundamental skills you would have to pick Stewart.

Futch. We could talk about Burley between rounds. Assuming I didn't get KO'd in the first.

I think Dundee was the better corner, but Futch the better trainer.

Steward meshes well with fighters of certain styles but I'm not entirely sold on him. The way his fighters lack in-fighting skills sans clinching is not the way to go, IMO.

Dundee. We could come up with a plan together, I would know he cares about me and would fight tooth-and-nail for me from the corner, whether cussing out officials, tearing gloves or screaming in my face that I'm blowing it. Not many cornermen can change the tide of a fight like Angelo.

But without a doubt Ray Arcel is a classic old-timer and I would be tickled pink if he could train me.

Training the body is one aspect. Understanding the mind of your figther is another.

    Angelo Dundee.

By the way, great trainers, all of them.

Emmanuel Steward, because i'm tall and lanky.

I don't really see the point in picking Dundee. Might as well choose a cheer leader instead; at least they look good.

Arcel, so I can gain the knowledge of his experience training so many great fighters over the years

Long as I wasn't facing Joe Louis, Ray didn't have the best of luck when he was in the opposing corner against Joe

I'd take the master that is Futch everytime. Futch reads an opponent so damn well there is little need for in fight adjustments, tho he can certainly cover that or advise if he feels his plan isn't being executed to the n'th degree. He nails the perfect damn gameplan most everytime right from the outset. He's the greatest strategist i have ever seen.

    Either Arcel or Futch.

I'd probably lean slightly towards Ray Arcel. I think that the edge that I'd afford Futch as a strategist (an edge that is both miniscule and arguable) is overcome by two things that Arcel has: the first is his ability to understand the psychology of his fighter, each was an individual according to this pugilistic rabbi, and he had an incomparable ability to build a nest in their heads where he could bring out their best. The second asset is the romance that his presence brings. He career spanned from Flyweight Frankie Genaro ('23) to Heavyweight Larry Holmes -1982. Here was a man who trained Benny Leonard, Barney Ross, Ezzard Charles, and Duran. That's 40% of the top ten fighters p4p ever on my list.
