A champion with tremendous heart. The song is great ,from the late Johnny Cash's," When The Man Comes Around".

No the song is inspired by heroin use. Cash's version is brilliant but not the original...

RIP Champ - big heart, against Foreman he just keep getting up and would not quit. I think he always gave it his all and I believe was willing to die in the ring.

Its sad to see the champs we grew up with getting old and passing away.

I think I will go and watch Ali-Frazier 1 now....

That's sad. I remember Joe had a bad bout with hepatitis back in the early 70's. I wonder if it was this that led to his liver cancer?

Say what you will but I found it inspiring. When he took his jacket off to attack that bag it reminded me of him in his prime when he climbed into the ring before a fight he was a guest at and took his jacket off to clown Ali who was there also. That was Joe just getting ready to smoke.

A quote from George in Esquire magazine about Joe before he died

"I love Joe Frazier. He's been an original from day one. A few years back, Joe, Muhammad, and I did a video in England. After the taping, we were at a charity dinner with some of the royal family. They were serving lamb chops with mint jelly -- beautiful food. The waiter asked, "Can I get you anything else?" And Joe said, "I want some more green jelly." The waiter said, "Do you mean mint sauce?" And Joe said, "Same thing." And I thought, Some people put on a face for you and a face for someone else. But this man has only one face. "Same thing." If you understood what he said, why did you need to correct him?"

You never heard George or Ken Norton say a bad word about Joe ever. Hell even Larry Holmes loved Joe and you generally have to surgically remove something complimentary from him.

ty I didn't know that, in retrospect it was too good a song to be an original by a dying Cash

Other than Ali you never heard another fighter, ever, talk bad about Joe Frazier .. he was a fighter's fighter, respected both in the ring and out of it .. add Ron Lyle, Jimmy Young and Earnie Shaver's who were big Joe fans as well ..
