the article also claims that Hatton lost because of his lack of upper body strength. Hatton lost because he doesnt know how to box.
IMO, Hatton's only chance was to bully Mayweather, much like he did against Zoo. When it was proven that Mayweather's strength is underrated, and he could actually overpower Hatton, that was it.
Nice read other than the window bit.
big props to mayweather for taking this fight, if he beats mosley clearly he should be given full credit look at mosley last few fights, he is the top welter right now to beat, dont expect him to get old overnight either
I'm picking floyd by a comfortable decision, I dont think shane has the discipline to try and turn mayweather into the aggressor.....which will be the key....All of mayweather's opponents have tried to take the castillo 1 gameplan of apply pressure, and go to the body....it has yet to work... Shane beat margo because margo is very one-dimensional, and clinched to negate the pressure style of margo.....Shane has to be patient, and force mayweather to fight....which won't happen... I got Mayweather in a 8-4, 9-3 type fight...
The only way Mosley is going to beat Mayweather is to force Mayweather to be overly defensive, and not offensive enough - similar to how De La Hoya won the rounds he won against Floyd. Mosley will NOT knock PBF out, or even hurt him for that matter. Now, with that said, I think the fight does have a very good chance of going exactly that way. Basically, for PBF to beat Mosley, he is going to have to show something he has never - or seldom - shown before.
Mosley actually does not have a reach advantage, Mayweather does. As measured from the armpit to the end of the fist(HBO's measurement which is the most accurate), Mayweather has a 26' reach compared to Mosley's 25' reach. Even more of a reason why Mosley will be outboxed. I don't even think Shane realizes he has the reach DIS-advantage. The measurement off which people assume Mosley has the reach advantage(74' Mosley to 72' - Mayweather) is more of a wingspan measurement(which includes chest width) than a measurement of true reach. The only advantage Shane has is 1 inch in height; power is irrelevant when you can't land clean punches, which he won't.
When a boxer punches he utilizes his whole wingspan, not just the "armpit to the fingertip" portion. So that when Mosley goes for his right cross, he twists his waist and then throws his right arm forward, his whole weight on his front leg. Does chest width not play a part in how farther his right cross is going to land?
Do boxers stand facing each other and extend their arms straight out, or do they stand at an angle and use their wingspan? :think
How can a guy use his whole wingspan(which measures from fingertip to fingertip and across the chest) to punch? The width of a persons chest really has minimal effect on the cross, whereas a cross is thrown off of your BACK LEG and your body is already angled AWAY from the person in front of you. Wingspan would have an even less significance in a hook or uppercut. The actual length of a persons arm is more meaningful when it comes to throwing a punch. The jab being the setup punch, to have an advantage in arm length is significant. The fact that Shane has shown problems with fighters who have a good jab makes this fact even more significant. Mosley could have long hand/fingers for all you know. Just because his wingspan is 2 inches wider, doesn't mean he has the 'reach' advantage. Standing at an angle does not influence anything my friend. Whether you are standing at an angle or standing straight, your arm will extend at the same length. Just because you are 'standing at an angle' doesn't mean your wingspan is being used; the boxer across from you will still distance himself accordingly. Turning into a punch can extend you slightly but really only in the case of a cross, and even that extension is minute.
Imo the fight will be a good fihgt for the first 4 rounds then Floyd will take over and win a comfortable UD
