    Yes - small guys.

    Probably bums as well.

Did he fight any talented 240 pounders?

There are several logical inconsistencies with your argument.

For one thing size dose not equate durability. There are a lot of fighters under 200lbs who are more durable than Briggs.

I would also add that lot of great champions did not fight any talented 240 pounders including Ali?

Finaly I dont consider Briggs to be particularly talented.

    And?

It is thee most important factor in boxing, above all else.

    Flyweights can't beat heavyweights.

    Yet always reasonable.

Briggs v Marciano is a matter of physics.

    Marciano 5'10'', 185
    Briggs 6'4'' 260 plus

Size does matter. I go with the Cannon by TKO mid-late rounds

    Hey Jazzo, welcome.

About durability: i don't think it increases all that much as weight goes over 200, 210lbs.

Lennox Lewis, Riddick Bowe, Wladimir Klitschko, Buddy Baer, Primo Carnera, Andrew Golota, Abe Simon, Vitali Klitschko are some of the more talented behemoths. Some have outstanding durability (Vitali, Simon), others just good (Lewis, Bowe, Carnera) and some are somewhat fragile (Wladimir, Golota, Baer).

But in the end, their durability was not a significant level higher than their smaller counterparts.

I see no reason why Marciano can't knock out Briggs, who throws no more than 15 punches a round anyway and lost every time he stepped up against a lacklustre Liakhovic, after pretty much losing the first 11 rounds. He does have a good style to beat Marciano, but Rocky is way more proven and in a puncher vs puncher matchup, going with the best chin, i.e. Marciano, is always wise.

Yes, but boxing is a matter of angles, speed and the ever present 'gameplan'.

Briggs fights with no angles, sorely lacks speed to use his power to great effect and his gameplan plays easily into Marciano's strengths - which is to crouch, work the body and play small against a fighter like Briggs who's punching skill is weak in comparison to the power he displays when he actually makes contact.

In a wrestling match, Briggs easily defeats Marciano - where his size can be used to proper effect.

In a boxing match, Briggs inadequacies as a fighter and boxer dissipate any advantage gained by being the bigger man.

Chris just curius how does briggs have a good style to beat marciano? I think Charlie Goldman polished marcianos style made in order to beat the stationary low workrate strong powerful big guys like briggs. IMO marciano was at his best here. I also think marciano and i am not talking p4p is one of the strongest heavyweight champions of all time, I am talking functional strength. If you gave the rock steroids like briggs, he would be literally a monster. people talk about needind speed when you fight a much bigger men, i think strength is just as important. one of the reasons i feel marciano doing very well vs superheavyweights

Because Briggs is a huge puncher with no mobility at all, yet equipped with fast hands.

In other words, when his opponent is boxing off the backfoot, he can't do a thing. Marciano will come right at him so in that sense, Briggs has a good stylistic matchup.

I can agree there, but you also have to look at it marciano is going to have a huge target in front of him with no mobility all stationary, so marciano will really be able to tee off his haymakers and crisp punch after punch much more effectivley

I wouldn't pick Briggs to beat Rocky but his size and strength could make Marciano have to work harder for the win though.
