The 40's was the only decade I thought was easy and I was wrong.
I had the same 4 you have plus Saddler, Ike Williams, Archie Moore, Charley Burley and some more but had to give up.

 

Definitely agree with your top 3 for 1960s and 1970s. I would slide Larry Holmes in just ahead of Mike Tyson in the 1980s though. Good listings for all decades. Will think about my own list.

I think Tyson's reign in the 80s was more impressive than Holmes's in 80s overall, Tyson actually unified and cleaned out the division which Holmes never really did after 82 atleast.

 

I see your point. This is a very thought provoking thread,is n't it? And all the better for that.

 

I mean you can look at it a few different ways, do you factor into what Holmes did in the 70s aswell ? When ranking him in the 80s ? But I also think Holmes losing 3 times in the 80s, counts against him aswell when ranking him.

Say what you want about Tyson, but his 80s reign was very impressive to me atleast. I've always felt like Tyson gets overrated by casuals, but at the sametime gets a bit underrated by hardcore boxing fans.
