So provided Groves gets saturday out the way, he's then mandatory to Dirrell's WBC - Obviously win that & he's WBC world chamnpion.At the same time Paul Smith - Abraham fight next week for the WBO.The chances of Smith - Abraham winner eventually fighting Groves has to be quite high (Abrahams links to Sauderland & Hearns past with Groves & screening this next fight) So real possibility that Groves could be WBC & WBO champion next year.Leaving IBF & WBA which Froch may defend against Degale (who if Degale wins would love a rematch with Groves) for all the belts!! I see this as being a realistic route - or am I being daft?
Would be great to see something like that happen but I'm not sure it will happen. Think Sauerland might keep Groves and Abraham apart so they have two world champions and Froch would probably beat Degale and probably wouldn't face Groves again even if he had the WBC title as Froch seems more focused on a Vegas fight than picking up more titles. I guess if Degale beats Froch the rematch with Groves would be an obvious match for sure.
Yeh I'd say the biggest IF is Degale VS Froch, however I still see Degale holding those belts somehow, be it if he fights for them once Carl retires.As for Groves - Abraham, I see that as a most likely out come as to be honest it would sell more than most & let's be honest Abraham hasn't long left before he retires,same for Smith if he manages to ge the win - though I think Smith - Groves is less likely after the way the first one ended,Smith doesn't appear the kind to like that fight,that said £££ speak and that would sell in GB
Fair point. I think even if Froch wins, he is likely to retire soon so I'd guess Degale would get hold of one of the vacant titles eventually and it would set up a potential unification with Groves, which would be even bigger if Groves beats Dirrell and then Abraham.
Exactly mate! and listening to the way DeGale goes on, its safe to say he's itching to put the record straight and I think if both have a belt each (in all likliehood they will by the time this comes around) then there is no better chance to do so, than by unifying the division (Ward aside) And that fight, would out do Froch - Groves, easy!
