1.) When did he adopt this fighting style? Did he used to fight with his hands up in his earlier days? If so, which fight did he begin to use this hands-down style?

2.) Trying it out myself, the hands-down style seems pretty difficult to generate power. I tend to use too much arm since I have to pull up my arm and then throw the punch. Should you just throw the punch from when the arm is at your waist? Since the arm is hanging down, the arm has to travel a longer distance.

    Driving up your post count?

Im sure martinez dident use that style during the margarito loss as far as i can remember.

Iv tried fighting like that aswell, i find flicking the jab feels really natural but anything else is very difficult, hence why i tried a new style

He actually did use it against Margarito, he just wasn't as good at it as he is now.

dont even try, that's as similar as trying to be like floyd mayweather and attempt the shell or someone trying to be like mike tyson. Learn the basics first, stick to it, then you'll eventually curve the basics to match your style. so dont try it unless you have some good reflexes and timing and a good knowledge of the basics.

if u got good muscle fibers and athletic like serg, u could be good at this. hes been doing it for a while. roy is another in his prime who was good with his hands low. but, u got to pick your spots well, or u will get creamed like linares or khan who r too offensive-minded

Dudes who use this style successfully - Roy Jones for example - have beautiful balance and great physical harmony. They move through their punches naturally with their hips etc. and generate a great deal of torque in this way. It's not natural to most people so most people don't use it.

    :deal

the hands travel a greater distance and you have to think more since movement/reflexes are now your defense, draining your energy

Oddly enough, the hands low style is really a way of defense.

Fighters dont use that style to generate punching power.

When you have your hands down low its easier to contort your body to positions your otherwise could'nt if your hands were raised high.

Its usually a figher who is fast and has great reflexes like Martinez or Roy Jones who can get away with having their hands down like that.

If you're not particulary fast nor have great reflexive instincts, you'll get killed attempting to implement that style.

Because your hands are down low, that style will also allow you to view incomng punches better.

Give it a try by yourself in a ring or on a flat.
Try contorting your body out of the way pretending there's an incoming punch coming, you'll find that having your hands down allows you to contort your body much further to avoid the shot.

Now try manuevering to different spots in a ring real fast.
Try it first with the hands down style.......
You'll find that its easier and faster to get to spots in a ring when your hands are low.
If your hands are high, it effects your coordination and you dont get there as fast and look much clumsier.

You gents have just been educated! ;)

its just easier to utilize head movement when your hands are lower. Like i said if you havn't at least have good knowledge of the basics and bad athletiscm then you shouldnt do this.
