Although he looked good dismantling Okami, a look back at the first fight would indicate that Okami didn't stand much of a chance. I still think Silva is on a decline, more of a physical decline. His power seems good however he doesn't seem as fast and explosive. Even so, he still is good enough to whoop everyone at 185 soundly, and even many of the major players at 205.
Not here to argue about alltime greats. Simply to say well done Spider Silva on taking it to 14 wins in a row and 9 successful title defences :thumbsup
What in the world did Fedor do to even get mentioned with Silva? Nog x2 and Crocop Those wins sure went far eh? Pride fanboys are clowns
First of all , if you wanna talk P4P 1 - Silva cuts to fight at MW. 2 - P4P argument is bull**** and anti-scientific (we shouldn't even be talking about it to be honest)..for nobody. Not anderson , not fedor or gsp etc.. Also , I'd rather see Anderson lose a couple of times against Penn-like competition , than constantly win against opponents who aren't doing **** in front of him. (as much as Penn was owned by GSP , at least he tried). Also , being undefeated in the UFC doesn't mean anything. There's undefeated fighters in boxing too. As a matter of fact , there's other undefeated fighters in mma too. There's even a guy who holds 247 victories in mma. http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Travis-Fulton-80 look at his winning streaks... Same goes for Emelianenko...If his record consisted of zulu-like opponents...he could have a +400 streak it would be irrelevant. What mattered at the time of his reign , was his victories in "rings" and "pride". It mattered back in 2003 , when he defeated Nogueira , (it was as big as GSP beating Penn back then). Anderson , in the UFC....has no such opposition. You won't find it in guys like Okami , Griffin , Marquardt , Cote , Leben , Belfort , etc.... So far , Silva's best and most difficult challenges in the UFC were against a past prime Henderson and a roided Chael Sonnen. But ! Anderson Silva is also past his prime , so mentioning Hendo being past prime is unfair. (it's like saying that Roy Jones was past prime at the time he fought Calzaghe , but....so was Calzaghe) The point is that none of these opponents were "Prime Nogueira-like" type competition. None of them. As a matter of fact , Nogueira's record is slightly better than Fedor's imo. When Anderson was in Pride he actually worked his ass off...(to win his fights). But he failed twice. But at least he had to do something !...Unlike today. When a fighter (no matter how talented) finds a way to stand there...doing nothing...without protection...not worrying about any takedowns or attacks...Then something's wrong. It's not about talent at this point. The problem is with the guy in front of him. Anderson is toying with most of his opponents. That's not normal...His fight against Okami was ridiculous. The one vs Maia was an insult....And so was the one vs Leites. I'm not hating on the guy. Just pointing the fact that he's got nothing to work with. A guy who's apparently as comfortable as he is ? (doing antics , having his hands down his waist)... Should be fighting opponents who will at least bring him a fight. (Like Sonnen did or Hendo or even Travis Lutter).... I'd be singing a different tune if the guy would've owned all his opponents in his prime (back in japan) , but he didn't. And the best fighter in the world doesn't lose to the likes of Daiju Takase. You know what i think ? That my logic can be applied to anyone. And i think most of you guys are full of ****. I see it all the time. Whether we're talking about Tyson fans or Klitschko fans or Mayweather fans or Fedor fans...or Pacquiao fans etc... The reality is that none of them are "teh best in the world". They're the best vs the competition they had to fight....Sometimes , not even that. Anderson is the best vs the competition he had to fight in the UFC & cage rage...He wasn't vs the one in Pride. Fedor was the best vs the one had in Rings , Pride and failed in strikeforce GSP is good in the UFC...But truth be told...I don't know what he's worth outside ufc's system , otcagon , rules..etc.. Muhammad Ali was good against a certain type of competition...which can't be compared to Klitschko's competition...Same with Marciano...or Tyson...etc...All of them had different type of opponents. Some were labeled "champsions of the world" , yet only had to fight american or canadian competition for the most part. I mean i enjoy boxing , mma or K1...i'm just being honest with myself. I also used to be a deluded fanboy at one point. (It started with Crocop...Then Nogueira...that's how i got hooked...When crocop first entered the mma scene) But this "best fighter in ze world" is bull****....nothing more. Deep down you all know it. Or maybe you don't. But the fight promoters sure do. They promoted Lesnar like an ultimate unbeatable monster , then they did the same **** with Machida , they did it with Liddell (for a very long time)... Most matchups are carefully chosen. Styles make fights for the most part. I remember , when Dana was threatening Anderson to fire him (from the ufc) because he was so pissed at the guy's shitty performances (vs Leites & especially Maia)...That's when they decided to get rid of him.... That's when they decided to give him Sonnen. But it failed...(it almost worked)...But as soon as they decided to match him up , against a guy who was a nightmare (stylewise) for anderson's approach of fighting...He was getting dominated. it's not an exact science. When Jones defeated Shogun , this too...was calculated. Scurlarunting knows it too. As a matter of fact , i think he was the only one who understood the situation at the time. Most of you were predicting Shogun to totally destroy Jones. But in reality;. Stylewise ? Jones was a ****ing nightmare for Shogun. (no matter how experienced and how good shogun is)... Promoters knew that it was a 50/50 chance. And Bingo !...We can know hype this kid as the next big thing. They do it very often. Remember when Couture came out of retirement to fight Sylvia ? (his sparring partner for **** sakes !...he knew everything about him..all his weaknesses). Or when Lesnar's first opponent was Mir ? You know why ? Because he was supposed to WIN the first time. Because mir was in reality PERFECT for Lesnar. Why ? Just watch Mir vs the 5'11 and 220 lbs wrestler , Ian Freeman. Mir's kryptonite ? super aggressive fighters. Link http://mmavideolinks.to/fighter-videos/164/1613-frank-mir-vs-ian-freeman-download.html The guy goes in panic mode as soon as the fighter is too aggressive. That's why even though Lesnar was a "noob"...he was a perfect match. But like i said...It's generally a 50/50 type scenario. The fights aren't fixed. But match makers know what they're doing and what works (business wise).
I would say silva mma goat. Todays performance was spectacular, it seemed silva wasnt even able to reach his potential against a boxed in scared okami
I think a brawler stands more chance than a refined striker against Silva. If a guy just throws he MAY catch him. but Silvas so good at feinting and drawing openings 'thinking' strikers seem to get mesmarised and schooled. I'd like to see a guy with a good chin and good cardio just go for broke and put loads of pressure on him. Anderson always seems to be able to keep a big distance between him and his opponant and rarely operates under pressure.
Not IMO, though it's closer than ever. There is one fight only out there for Anderson IMO, and that's Jones@205.
I disagree. Stylistically, that's the nightmare fight for Anderson. It won't happen, and if it did, he'd get stomped. There are still fights I'd like to see for Anderson outwith that: GSP, Sonnen II, Henderson II (though this time at 205) and Belfort II. Those four then retirement is my dream for Anderson's career.
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myRaxbkJN64[/ame] I still think Henderson at this point has the biggest chance. his wrestling, good chin, combined strength and one punch power. even if he is getting older, he's on HTR which helps level out the playing field quiet a bit imo.
Fedor was undefeated from start to when he became old. He has a longer winning streak and beat better opposition. I think Anderon need to beat GSP or move up and win a Rua sort of bout before he is considered at the level of Fedor
185 is still IMO the weakest division in The UFC as it was before Mr. Silva Showed up to dominate it. Silva is just an awesome fighter in a crap division.
I actually think he might be in decline because the reflexes seemed a smidgen off early on, but he's also a cold starter that likes to figure out the game as it goes. Logic dictates that he HAS to slow down soon but even when it becomes apparent he'll have success because of the wide gulf in class between him and everyone else on their feet. Silva's boxing skill is so ****ing far above everyone else in the UFC that it's truly ridiculous. The guy uses nothing but upper body movement to dodge six and seven shot combos with kicks and knees, he stands hands at his waist and makes stiff jabs whiff by a **** hair, and he's the only guy I've ever seen in MMA that can pull off a quality pull counter and he does it with regularity. He's sheer brilliance standing, a ballet of violence, and I only wish that other MMA fighters could gain this level of understanding of the sweet science.
