How the **** can you say that Herring, Nog 2x, Schilt, Fujita, Goodridge, Coleman 2x, Randleman, Mirko, Hunt, Choi, Sylvia, Arlovski, and Rogers are better competition than Sakurai, Newton, Horn, Leben, Franklin 2x, Henderson, Marquardt, Leites, Griffin, Maia, Cote, Sonnen, Belfort, and Okami? There's no comparison.

I'm not saying I rank Anderson higher than Fedor yet, just that I believe it can be debated now, that Anderson is a valid alternative, and that he soon could overtake Fedor. Silva's last 3 opponents have all been top-class fighters (Sonnen, Belfort, Okami) and have all been finished. If he keeps going on like this, surely it's only a matter of time before his career surpasses Fedor's? True, Fedor's best wins are better than Anderson's best wins, but not by much, and Anderson has other things in his favour as well. It's a debatable issue now IMO.

Anderson beating Dan Henderson is better than any of Fedors wins. Everyone likes to shrug off Rich Franklin like he is nothing. At 185 Franklin is a beast. ANDERSON is what makes Franklin irrelevant.

OLD MAN Dan Henderson just moved up and beat Fedor for **** sake.

You guys are ****ing delusional about the heavyweight division.

    In my opinion,

BJ Penn vs Matt Hughes 1

Fedor Emelianenko vs Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira 1

Matt Serra vs Georges St Pierre 1

are far and away the three greatest wins achieved by any fighter in MMA history.

I don't view Anderson Silva vs Dan Henderson as being on the same level as Fedor-Nog 1.

This is such bull****. You're taking the fact that Silva totally dominates to claim that his opponents are "bull**** competition", "dumb asses" or "aren't trying". Somehow the 185lb weight class produces only horrible fighters who don't give a ****, except for one guy? Since these opponents are all so lousy, I'm sure you bet tons of money on each fight since it was so clear they were going to lose, right?

Here's the news: They're trying their best and freeze because they can't do a damned thing without getting countered instantly by accurate punches with TONS of snap. Silva is the best striker MMA has ever seen and unless a guy can take him down and keep him there a la Sonnen on roids or Hendo for one round then they have no chance at all. The same will go for anyone he fights at 205.

And what the **** is with bringing BJ Penn into any discussion about best fighters out there? He's recently lost two in a row at 155 and had a draw with a guy who's clearly no better than #2 at 170, if that. Give me a break.

You conveniently edited my post. You're like Popkins (the guy who started this thread) , you don't give a **** about opposing views , all you care about is to confirm your preconceived opinion.

I have to say, based on that list (unless theres a hidden list) Fedors competition is at best average.

 I think everyone on here cares about opposing views, but when those opposing views are ridiculous then they deserved to be called ridiculous. Opposing views have to be "opposed", don't they? Now they can be opposed constructively and with respect when those opposing views are valid.

    To me, your opinion:

Is not valid. It's ridiculous. Therefore, it does not deserve legitimization nor debate, just plain ridicule. :good

To suggest that Anderson Silva's reflexes and ability are irrelevant by saying that his approach to fights is permitted only by "bull**** competition" is laughable.

    Dan Henderson
    Rich Franklin x2
    Chael Sonnen
    Vitor Belfort
    Forrest Griffin
    Demian Maia
    Yushin Okami
    Nate Marquardt
    Chris Leben

Yeah, a pile of complete bull**** there. :patsch

    No chance.

The only person ignorant enough to say such **** in pulic is that POS dana white & his agena could not be more obvious.

Fedor was unbeatable for like 30 straight fights & holds solid, clear victories over some of the best HWs that ever lived right at their own peak... he`s human & had to decline at some point, no other fighter is close to Fedor in terms of greatness... Silva tho deserves his place as p4p no1 today... but definitly not all time.

You don't think the issue can even be debated at this point then?

I'm starting to think Anderson has enough points in his favour to make it a debate now. As I've been saying since page 1, I'm not saying I rank him higher, but in terms of the tear he has been on since 2006 (really 2004 if you disregard the DQ), he has torched some very good fighters in at times stunningly impressive fashion.

    The gap is closing.

You're an idiot. Like i said , you people don't give a **** about opposing views. All you care about is shoving down other people's throats your perception of reality. This is a waste of time. It's like trying to explain to a religious person that there is no god. That it's just an imaginary friend. This analogy can be used for fanboys. Worshiping their untouchable idols. That's why you pretend not to understand or edit my comments.

I think i never should've bothered posting this thread about the fedor/hendo stoppage because it gives the false feeling that , i...myself , am just another fanboy defending his favorite fighter. But i'll admit it , i never should've bothered. Not because i'm wrong , but because many of you (not all of course) , but many esb posters are too immature. (no matter how old you are in reality)...Whether you're 18 , or in your 20's , 30's , 40's or more....Most of you are acting like big kids.

I see it all the time. Whether we're talking about Anderson's fans , Pacquiao fans , Klitschko fans , Mayweather fans , Haye fans , Fedor fans , Lesnar fans , Lebron fans , Kobe fans , Froch fans etc....etc...

You guys are living in denial. Just like when Scurlarunting and I were predicting Shogun to be in trouble against the very "green" Jones...Most of you were in denial. ...Many of you were certain that Shogun would totally own that kid...I personally had big doubts...Don't believe me ?

    Check it for yourselves.
    http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=297715

That fight was a 50/50....maybe not even that. No matter how experienced Shogun is. Fight promoters know what they're doing. They're currently doing it with Anderson. This is no conspiracy theory , that's how boxing and other combat sports work. There's a bunch of fighters who are (stylewise) , perfect anti-Fedor , anti-Anderson , anti-Shogun , anti-jones , anti-Penn opponents....

Liddell , in his prime....Avoided them all. (thanks to smart match making)

Almost all matchups are carefully studied when fighters start to get dominant.
There's several phases in a fighter's career. Take a classic example. Tyson. (or how to build a media god-like legend with smart match making).

When a fighter has a lot of potential....An enormous potential to become a champion. His career follows a certain path. In tyson's case...They had a super athletic kid who had a lot potential. Stylewise....It would've been a suicidal career move to feed this guy super experienced +6′5 tall opponents with a solid chin and a big reach advantage during his career debut.

(then again....Back in the 80's , there were no such specimens)...Not even in the 90's. The best i can think of is maybe Bowe but even this guy is not comparable to the likes of Lennox or let's say Vitali.

When Wanderlei Silva was still in his prime , the chutebox camp took a couple of risky decisions when they accepted their fighter to confront Yoshida. Stylewise , this past prime judoka was in reality a nightmare for Wandy's style. Quinton Jackson , who was the better fighter , couldn't even give Silva as much problems as Yoshida did , and yet...Jackson > Yoshida in the rankings....

When Anderson became a ufc fighter , the idea wasn't to protect him or give him tailor made opponents for him to finish...He first had to prove himself. His first opponent was Leben. And the idea wasn't for him to beat Leben...that wasn't zuffa's plan. Business wise...and after a 5 winning streak in the UFC...The idea was to boost their "TUF" product...Their boy was supposed to beat Silva ( or at least they were counting on it ) but It failed.

How were they supposed to know ? Afterall , here was this 31 yr old guy who (prior to his ufc debut) was defeated by the likes of Chonan & especially Daiju Takase. Like in all fights....it was a risk. But a 50/50 risk worth taking.

After Leben , they instantly gave him another ufc protegé....Franklin....and the rest was history.

It was in ufc's best interest to make this guy their new star. And since Anderson IS a real talented fighter (i've never denied it) , the ufc decided to progressively feed this guy with tailor made opponents.

In boxing it's slightly different...but the principle is almost the same.

boxing promoters , trainers etc...Do not take as many risks as mma promoters (and especially the ufc).

That's why a guy like Povetkin takes forever to fight Klitschko. Teddy Atltas knows that for the time being...it's in his fighter's best interest.

There's more risks (business wise) in boxing. That's why big fights take a long ****ing time to happen. (such as Mayweather vs Pacquiao)

Make no mistake. Even though Wladimir Klitschko ended up being rather comfortable beating David Haye by UD, Manny Steward knew that this was a risky career move (and at the same time , an enormous move for the sport of boxing & a big test for Wlad's legacy)....Haye believed in himself and was a risk taker too. And so was his trainer. Big fights like this don't happen too often..

Many of these fights get postponed...a lot of times.

It's different in mma. Because the likes of Anderson , Belfort , Nogueira , GSP , Velasquez etc...are all fighting under the same roof. The UFC almost has the monopoly of the sport of mma. They can make big fights happen because if one guy loses , then....No big deal. we have our new hero/mascot.....

But in order to build their "legends"... They progressively try to select opponents which are likely to lose against their champ's style.

Prior to Okami , Anderson had to fight Belfort. a WIN / WIN situation for the UFC organisation. (businesswise). Stylewise , Belfort is tailor made for Anderson. So why is it a WIN / WIN ?

Before Belfort became Anderson's opponent , he had to beat....surprise , surprise... Rick Franklin. (who already lost twice against Anderson)....In other words, the ufc had 2 potential opponents , who were tailor made for their mascot. (anderson silva). It was irrelevant for them if Belfort won or not. Cause Franklin was the other possible outcome. They weren't sure that Franklin would lose to Belfort (again the fights aren't fixed)...But they always try their best to give their stars perfect opponents.

(the guy doesn't have to be a "can"...) i'm not saying anderson's opponents are garbage. They're all legit fighters. But legit fighters who are perfect for Anderson's style.....If Belfort would've defeated Anderson ? No big deal....You'd hear Dana , Rogan and co say: "the Phenom has returned"..."the ufc legend is back stronger than ever".... (Belfort's very name , is part of ufc history...Just like Coleman , Couture , Liddell or hell even Tank Abbott).

Like i said earlier. There was one point in time , where Dana and co were starting to get rather annoyed with Anderson's antics. To the point where Dana was even threatening Silva to fire his ass (champion or not) ,if he continued to perform like he did against the likes of Maia (and even Leites and Cote)......

That's when he had to fight Sonnen. But this time !...Stylewise...He was a problem for Anderson (just like Yoshida was for Wanderlei).

Their plan wasn't necessarily to make their champ lose by giving him a guy with a nightmarish style to deal with....Just to force Anderson to fight and not pull his bull**** antics in the middle of the ring. And it worked. (he had to work his ass off to beat Sonnen)...
