Natural heavyweights are not usually good athletes. In terms of motor skills, coordination, grace, etc.

Fury for a 6'9" giant is shockingly nimble and athletic though.

But in general most guys that size are awkward. Even their physiques look weird too. Like there is usually no harmony or aesthetic to a super HW physiques.

Wilder looks athletic, I'll give him that. And he's also very fast and springy for a big man. But that's just one aspect of athleticism, and Wilder's balance, coordination and spatial awareness have always been terrible. He'd probably excel in like one or two sports that emphasised his narrow range of skills, and totally crash and burn in all the rest.

Fury, for all his flabby body and woman's hips is a ton more coordinated and physically capable.

Time to go back to the drawing board.Wilder losst but still has excellent stamina and power .he has a good jab when he chooses to use it .He is and will be a dangerous proposition for any HW. I wish him well

Wilder will be remembered as a heck of a fighter, nothwithstanding his technical imperfections.

He's a good-natured enough fellow, too. He should just stop drinking a certain Kool-Aid is all, especially since it inspired that opulent entrance outfit which (according to his trainer) cost him the rematch.

Fury has freakish mobility and shot variety, add to 6'9" and 270lb and it spells trouble for any opponent.

Fury is definitely a freak of nature, or rather, dedicated study and practice.

I actually compare him in many ways to Davarryl "Touch of Sleep" Williamson, although much more successful than Williamson.
My question though, is whether it had to end up this way? It seems to me that if he had a great trainer just sitting down with the fighter like I used to help a trainer to do and focus on a tape of Larry Holmes, studying the jab, grabbing a mirror and practicing the form, sparring, and focusing on one step at a time he could've learned more.

I agree. Jumping directly back into the ring with Fury seems like a bad idea IMO. Possibly devastating.

I remember in the fight the announcers said Deontay had faced adversity before and fought the likes of "Ortiz [PAUSE]", the girl had to exclaim "TWICE!". They were grasping for names in Wilder's resume and Ortiz is the only name they could think of.

The way American fighters are "built" in the modern era (or rather, pointedly, not) is a goddamn shame. :ohno
