This content is protected Haye and Harrison were friends but are now enemies By Shaun Brown When Audley Harrison steps into the ring tomorrow night against WBA Heavyweight champion David Haye he will believe that his destiny has finally arrived. The years of ridicule, horror show performances and all round under-achievement will all be forgotten. Yes he can, has been his cry for far too long. My conclusion, like the fight, will be brief. Big Audley is heading for a nasty fall. For many years British fight fans have been suckered into believing that guys like Hatton and Bruno could in fact defy the impossible and beat guys like Mayweather Jnr and Tyson respectively. For weeks on end I have read more and more people coming out of the woodwork claiming that Harrison can defy the odds and do the unthinkable. Audley Harrison: The new heavyweight champion of the world! It just doesnt fit. The former Olympic gold medallist has done a good marketing job for the fight along with Haye. And no doubt the pay-per-view broadcasters will have been thrilled with the fighters theatrics on various television and radio interviews. Its an event that transcends boxing claims Hayes trainer Adam Booth. Really? Yes the fight has grabbed the average Joe off the street to watch it which is good for the game. But in the end what does the outcome of this do for the division? If Haye wins it proves absolutely nothing. He still has not fought a Klitschko. If Harrison wins, yes he will have proved doubters like me wrong but do we think he can then go on to unify the division? Truth be told, he is the kind of fighter that could win this fight and then face somebody like Monte Barrett and lose!! This is frankly a nightmare scenario I dare not think about.
