Ahh yes Peter "Hurricane" McNeeley, the man who made Henry Akinwande look like George Foreman and Lou Monaco like Joe Frazier.

I didn't say that, but do you think Cooney really fought so great where McNeeley couldn't do what Cooney did or at least put up that sort of fight?. Cooney basically landed a few left hooks and one really good one, and then was knocked out in round 2.. I never was a great Gerry Cooney fan. I think he had a great left hook but he lost to Spinks in 5 rounds. Spinks was not a natural heavyweight.

I know the Cooney era almost too well. I watched those fights and paid attention in away more than I could at my age now. Cooney had a great left hook, and better than McNeeley sure. But the Cooney who fought George, and I saw that fight live in a sports bar in Jan of I think 1990.. Doug Dewitt fought the undercard I think I remember, beating Matthew Hilton. So I saw that fight live and remember it well. I just don't see how Cooney put up a great fight. And we can say, ok he was inactive. Well he stopped fighting actively much after Holmes. I remember in the mid 1980s on TV saying Cooney will fight Gregg at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. I think that is where he fought I mean he was so inactive after Holmes, and really he should have fought Weaver and not Holmes, his whole career might have been different. He might have beaten Weaver, although guys like Dokes or even Bonecrusher would have given him tough fights.

Well I take threads seriously when I comment. I respect Cooney as a fighter and he has a great left hook.. And Cooney lasted two rounds with George. It isn't like he proved he was so great in 1990. he last two rounds and fell apart with just a few of George's power.. McNeeley was not a great fighter, but I don't think he would have done too much worse than Cooney vs. George.

Cooney lasted 2 rounds with foreman because foreman was that good and powerful it has nothing to do with cooney .Your argument is ridiculous. Cooney would destroy mcneley early and brutally

Because professional alcoholic Cooney was so good :lol::lol:

If Mark Young went 7 rounds with Big Mummy, i think McNeeley will go the distance 10. George might win a swollen face UD victory against the 36-1 prime Hurricane.

Could Mcneely match Cooney’s lofty feat of getting blasted out in two rounds by a guy in his 40s? Yeah I think he could, but so could a lot of guys.

Cooney was overrated a bit. He lost to Holmes reather easily and he outweighed him by 10 or more pounds, was taller.. Spinks was a blown up light heavy and knocked him out in only 5, and Foreman knocked him out in 2. I am not sure how good Cooney was.. I liked Gerry's left hook but as a fighter, he realy did not accomplish much.
