A Future Classic MMA Forum - How This generation will be viewed ?

indeed i think that future generations will be viewed as WORSE than the holy trinity of fedor, anderson and silva today. why?.. I think in the future everyone is going to be soooo well rounded that defeat will just be a part of the game. you wont see these guys going on 8,9,10 fight winning streaks anymore. it will simply be too hard. Its not like boxing where the best guy is just the best fighter. its ganna get to a point where nearly anyone can beat anyone on any given day. we are already starting to see that now in the lightweights. its just a matter of time

 

Jon Jones will be regarded high in the future, I mean heck,the guy is only 24 He is the future. Silva will be remembered as the most dynamic striker.

 

Course not, there will always be standout fighters and athletes. Of course, upsets will happen, as they still do at the top level of boxing, but to suggest there won't be anyone capable of going on a good run in MMA is madness, there will always be fighters more capable at certain aspects of the game and leads to style clashes and possible winning streaks if you have a few in a row.

I do think fighters, in say ten years, will probably be well-rounded across the board, but in the top ten of every division now most guys have a wide reaching skillset, or at least decent in all things, so I don't see a huge amount of evolution from where we are now.

 

I kind of agree but not really.

There'll always be stand out fighters. Not at every weight all the time, but much like we've got at WW, MW and LHW now, there's gonna be stars of every era. Each division will go through peaks of talent and drought, the lightweight division is probably a perfect example. When BJ was champ the division looked weak, I remember people completely writing off Frankie as a squash match, and now (with the addition of the WEC 155s) the division is a strong as any division ever has been in any mma promotion. Similarly, the 205 division (until recently one of the deeper divisions) is gonna start looking pretty bleak pretty soon if Jones takes out Rashad and Hendo
