Well, I haven't read Wade's book and don't have time to now, but based upon how the author of the _Slate_ article summarizes his arguments, I will commit to stating that I see only two basic possibilities -and I do mean this exhaustively: 1) Wade is an idiot (or a disingenuous scoundrel). 2) The _Slate_ author is straw-manning the hell out of him.
You lie like the rug. I read liars tend to be very descriptive on things, except for the accusation/ facts part of the equation, which is pretty much what you do. I have seen you say if you could vote in the USA, it would be Democrat. So now you acting like you are conservative? LOL. And judging my the amount of flames you have going on here with others, you are always backed into a corner. You might dislike me the most, perhaps because I'm better at it then most who choose to reply. Here is a hint, unless someone rips you first, NEVER put in another poster's name in derogatory way.
I would vote Democrat in the US you don't think I would vote for Trump do you! I don't dislike you, I despise you. I do so because you are: 1A coward 2.A bet welcher 3.A bigot 4.A liar. 5. A 24 carat c*nt Here's a thought ,instead of contemplating your next negative post about Jack Johnson, why don't you spend the time learning how to read ,write ,spell, and construct, a legible sentence! Re- read what you typed, you half witted dullard!
Well I'm English, but if I lived in the US I would vote Democrat. - Mcvey in the below thread: https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/was-wills-better-than-mcvea-jeannette-or-langford.445982/page-6#post-14336584 Robert Shaw was an excellent actor, and a damned good playwright and author. He got to fight Connery in two films. " From Russia With Love, and Robin & Marian. However Shaw was a Lancastrian ,not a Scots. He was a very erudite man, but held some extreme right wing views, [probably fit in well here]. - McVey in the below thread https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/why-has-scotland-never-had-a-heavyweight.492232/page-7#post-15809290 STOP LYING MCVEY. I highly doubt anyone who would vote Democratic in the USA would vote Conservative in the last 5 elections in the UK as you just claimed. I have also seen you say you didn't like Thatcher, who was conservative. Do you want me to reproduce the Thatcher quote too? You lie! You lie! You lie! You lie! You lie! You lie! You lie! You lie! You lie! You lie! You lie! You lie! You lie! You lie! BUSTED AGAIN END.
I hated Thatcher, admired Robert Shaw as an actor ,but he was a little too right wing for me as regards his politics . You may produce whatever of my posts that you feel inclined to,but why not do so under a new thread with the heading McVey's Posts then the forum can decide if they would wish to view them,[if they did I would assume they would just go to my profile and access them there], but you do what you want Rain Man. As fascinated as you appear to be by my life I think it highly doubtful it has the same appeal to anyone else here! So now, how about we return to Gene Tunney?
Let's create a "McVey vs Mendoza" thread and you guys can own it all by yourselves. Post insults all day and night. And we can have the other threads to ourselves. Just an option. Think about it.
This is simply not true back then. There was "scientific" racism by intellectuals. And not only to blacks. There were all sorts of theories about why southern Europeans were inferior. If you want a high profile racist intellectual, take President Woodrow Wilson. He was a prominent historian and political scientist before becoming president of Princeton, and then on to politics.
What exactly do you think that statement of mine proves? That I thought Shaw an excellent actor? Yes I did! That he was an excellent author ?Yes he was! That he held some extreme right wing views ?Yes he did! What else do you think it proves? Tell us all please By all means produce the Thatcher quote,.what do you think it will prove? Other than that I detested her? Now calm down you are going to have a heart attack, [if only]. Do you think all Conservatives are the same? Do you think all Labour politicians are the same? RainMan, take up my suggestion make a thread about,if you like ,all the lies all the contradictory statements that you say I have made ,list them and I'll answer any you want. Now,can we get back to Mr Tunney?
This thread has picked up steam but still no reply to the question I posed that bumped it. If anyone has any information on the address where Tunney was born I would appreciate it. I know he was raised on the lower east side of Manhattan but I'm looking for a specific address thanks.
If you review my posts I think/hope ,you would conclude that I make a reasonable contribution to the forum. If you scroll down you will see I have 2 current threads going. I see you have made 4 in the last 5 years. I've made 36 this month! The post you just made suggesting a separate thread to keep this one on track,[which I have also suggested and agreed with],is actually the only input you have made to this thread! Which I must admit, rather makes me laugh!
Woodrow Wilson was a vile human being (as perforce is almost anyone who garners the approval and support of concentrated wealth and power) but I don't see much real reason to assume his putative racism was much more than a proxy for class. Would he really have been incapable of recognizing (say) W.E.B. Debois as an intellectual peer? He might well have *professed* not to if it suited him, but a functioning psychopath like Wilson will say nearly anything that suits him. He was at best (or worst?) an oligarch first and a racist second. As two counterexamples, let me cite Bertand Russell and Charles Darwin. There is not a trace of racism in Russell, for the simple reason that he just thought too clearly, and the only thing approaching racism in Darwin is a very tentative and even-handed speculation about how selection pressures might have acted on different human populations, which was entirely reasonable in the nineteenth century -or for that matter today, so long as you don't overstate what the evidence will actually support. Now since I've managed to *really* take this thread on a tangent, can anyone name black fighters who would have been plausible candidates for a title shot against Tunney? (I'm not expressing doubt that they existed, I just don't know of any.)
Holy ****, I searched for videos for that very purpose a few months ago but didn't find anything. Jack Dempsey, by the way, sounds so much like my grandfather it's a little eerie. I can just picture him getting mad and whipping off his belt old school and barking, "Gat dammit, I whooped your father and I'll whoop you!" just like my granddad did when he was babysitting me.
