why compare the two? to totally different fighter both great. in stead of down grading one fighter why not just embrace both as we may not see these 2 types of fighter agian.

i could go on all day and pick apart pacs resume.

like his rabid fans thinking ahe just beat a prime dlh and that he actully could.

thing is he got the win and that is all that really matter same goes for joe

Yes, but read my thread-start. I honestly don't believe the fans of other fighters behave in this way. As I said, if Pac announced right now he was fighting Morales or Castillo, many of his fans would come out in revolt. If he said he wouldn't fight JMM because his dad doesn't believe in trilogies, there would be widespread derision of him. Calzaghe fans do not behave like this en masse. It really is weird, it is different.

Nope, I don't. Mainly because I don't see a genuine question in that. A genuine question is not asked by first insulting people with jibes beforehand. I think that is why you will struggle to get the responses you are looking for, people aren't responsive to that. A straight question is more likely to get a straight answer, isn't it? It kinda seems like you get angry with these fans and whilst you might feel like you are being genuine you resort to insults, its really no better than the kind of fans you are talking about, the new breed of fan such as ENGLISH HUGGER or whatever.

And overall, directing threads to a section of fans has never resulted in a productive thread in my experience.

This kind of stuff is disapointing from you when you are one of the best posters on here. It lets you down. But I'll leave you to it.

Yawn. Did you even read the thread-start? You aren't even on the same planet never mind the same topic. No-one is criticizing Calzaghe as a fighter and no-one is comparing resumes here. Use your brain.

"if Pac announced right now he was fighting Morales or Castillo, many of his fans would come out in revolt. If he said he wouldn't fight JMM because his dad doesn't believe in trilogies, there would be widespread derision of him"

    True or false?

I don't know whether Pacquiao's own fans would come out in revolt. Bearing in mind that would imply his entire cross section of fans and not just yourself. I'm sure some would, and some would blindly defend anything. That's just fanaticism for you.

What you have to remember is people like me never celebrated the fact he fought Roy Jones. So when you label Calzaghe's fans as football guys or whatever, its pretty disrespectful to cast aspersions like that.

What I would say is a certain section of Calzaghe support on here is embarrassing. There are a few wind ups that say things mostly tongue in cheek, but a few are just devoid of any boxing knowledge. I don't know why you'd direct a thread at them and not just ignore it.

i can see where your coming from. on that note. maybe i mis read it. but honestly if pac wanted to put castillo scalp on his resume i wouldn't blame him. in all joes last few fight has been against top tier opposition not matter the age(minus manfredo) you have bika, kessler, hopkins, rjj. the latter 2 to shut up americna fans that asked for those fights. his fans werent' clamoring for it the us media and his detractors did as soon as he won they made thery excuses and felt dumb after the b-hop vs pavlik fight. joe has his special fans just like many others fighters.

as an americna i think the reason why this is is that foreign fight fans has a special connection with there fighters and take the wins and loss as they them selves did it. i wish they were more fans like that here

this is probally why it seems that his uk fans have that football mentallity. it just there culture i guess

I can't speak for the rest but I have never praised Calzaghe for taking the Jones fight and openly said on here when the fight was made that there were tougher fights out there he could have taken.

I also never got excited about the performance afterwards either.

I'm a big calzaghe fan, but he does seem to be getting a bit more arrogant and starting to shoot his mouth off a bit more now he has had a couple of fights in america. Before his fight with hopkins I don't remember him saying anything bad about another opponent so I can understand why to some he seems like this cocky guy who only fights guys past their best.

With regard to who him fighting Hopkins and Jones, I think Hopkins was a fight to get his name heard in America and was a pretty tough fight for him (as the Pavlik fight proved) and Jones was a guarrenteed money fight (which to be fair to Calzaghe, he hasn't had to many due to the poor calibre of SMW's during his reign as champion) and quite a few people still gave Jones a decent chance of turning back the clock and giving him a decent fight.

One question to all the Calzaghe haters out there tho. What could Joe have done differently in his career to get more respect from you?

I didn't "label his fans as football guys", but I said the general mentality of his fans does seem to be bound up with the mentality of football fans. I live in the UK, and I see the similarity. Football fans support their teams blindly no matter what, and I see a lot of that in the Calzaghe fans on this forum in a way I don't observe in other fan groups.

I would direct a thread at them and not just ignore it as it is my nature to point out and discuss things I think are strange, or wrong, or interesting. If that makes you uncomfortable or offended, I apologize for you, but I think this observation is perfectly valid and I very interested in the responses to this subject.
