I will say this is somewhat of a troll thread...but it's an honest question, so I'll try to give it a shot.

I think because most UK fans haven't seen a good boxing prospect to jump bandwagon with since Lewis. Once they have a offensively lethal (although i find ineffective) giant like Joe Calzaghe, they found a new guy to give their praises to. He's the man with the "0"...the man that "beat the best." If they had more serious choices, I don't think you'd find this sort of blind obsession.

And have you seriously seen some of the sort of INSANE amount of defensive lines you hear from Floyd fans??!! Jesus christ...this man has his own army of defense attourneys. They have a spin for every answer possible about his ducking and being scared and being better than this boxer or that boxer. The man fights Judah and Baldomir and he's the top of the WW division :huh

Just as crazy as Calzaghe fans...but it's due to Floyd being the only real American boxing great as of now. Paul Williams is coming up in the rankings but he hasn't had his big break yet...

I think it's just countrymen looking for something to cling onto.

Some other countries produce great prospects and great fighters like it's no tomorrow. so you really don't see that sort of behavior because if they lose or avoid certain fighters, there's always somewhere else to look towards. Mexico has plenty of fighters to follow. PR has plenty of fighters to look forward to. I think Canada is getting some people to follow. Germany has a few.

But the UK has what? Khan? Haye needs to get through Vitali before he becomes the next thing people are crowing about. Hatton? Theyre not so delusional after that Floyd KO...

I think American fans are guilty of the same crime. Hyping up fighters way too fast before even doing anything relevent...it's all about searching for that next big thing.

I'm not so sure, I think other than a hardcore minority, even Floyd fans accept his 147 opposition was pretty poor and that he could have stuck around for Margarito and Williams if he was serious about becoming one of the best ever. With Calzaghe fans, it doesn't seem to be only a hardcore minority, it seems to be the vast majority and generally accepted truths.

Pacquaio fans has inflated head and think their guy could take anybody. One thing good about pac fans, they always want the big fights. Marquez always has the style for manny and pac fans are still upbeat in their boy fighting the big challenges. I also did hear cries of disgust when he fought Barrera.
The thing with Cal fans, is when messes up boxing. The 0. Kind of suck watching Cal fight old roy instead of someone who can bring him to the next level. The man is good enough. He would have wipe the floor with Pavlik, and has the goods for dawson. Taylor would be a tune up for him and would also be a good name for his record. But too many people are trying to protect his 0. It happens with most undifeated fighters.
Hoya, floyd cherry pick their way at some point. Some fighters more then others. If manny was undegeated at 122, would we have seen him fight Barrera. Im not sure. They might have just wated for him to get old like Cal did to Jones. I like throwback figthers rather then undfeated guys with bums on their record. I'll take guys like Margarito,Mosley, Hatton, Pacquao anyday as long as they look for the big fights. We got to stop thinking like a guy with a couple losses are a bums. Fighters do mature, and improve.

We know Jones was shot for years before he fought Calzaghe.

We know that Calzaghe rematched Veit, but now says he doesn't believe in them.

We know these things, I didn't just make them up to discredit Joe.

    Excellent post.

The only thing I disagree with is your point about Pac v Barrera - we would still have seen that fight even if Pac still had a zero then. He has a warrior's mentality and wanted to fight the best.

  9. hasnt nearly every calzaghe on this board said they didnt like the joe fight in this thread?

I remember thepluginbabies kicked up a big fuss about it, really slating joe for this fight. Amsterdam wasnt happy, I wasnt, jc, tffp all werent impressed. Pugilist64 probably was, but that's just him. i cant really think of that many calzaghe fans who liked that thread... I remember virtually every Jones Jr fan loved the fight - 169osh didnt, he just wanted it to be over and hope for the best, kg0208 hasnt watched the fight once - he's a fan of both (more jones), and never will do i dont think. several calzaghe fans i know all said they didnt really enjoy the jones jr fight, and felt that the accolades thrown on him afterwards were very misleading - to put it nicely.

Maybe we should do a poll - Attention all Joe fans, (make it multiple choice) did you enjoy the idea of the Jones Jr fight, and should Hopkins get a rematch... see what happens?

jesus H christ you say it as if calzaghe is a spring chicken, the real question is how come you dont mention nothing about that ***** dawson ...his last few fights have been against fighters whom are twice his age. the reason calzaghe is like this is simple, for years he was treated like **** but dick heads like hopkins, etc.

Have he and his father always had this deep psychological aversion to rematches, or not?

  13. maybe he's seen the criticism he's received for it, and the complete waste of fighting a guy he's already beaten, and decided to never make the same mistake again?

Why not say that then? Why say he doesn't believe in rematches? Rematches being a cornerstone of this sport, and seeing as he has already rematched Veit.

I like Joe...Pac is clearly a better fighter all around. Joe's fans from England praise him like he is the GOAT--"SUGAR RAY ROBINSON"...Joe is a good fighter but he doesnt have many names on his resume..past prime RJJ, undefeated Kessler(good fighter, Kessler is), undefeated overrated Lacy, and a Great BHOP is the best name on his list...but Taylor beat Bhop more convincing that Joe did...
