Have been away & missed the fight although I will be watching with my dad tomorrow night. I came on here for a quick rundown on how it went despite having some feedback from a fewmates & was dissapointed to see , yet again , posts saying Cotto was overated & how pbf would murder Margo....!!!...For ****s sake fellas the general vibe I got from my friends was that it was a great fight & very enjoyable to watch for a boxing fan....??? One of my mates is an ex golden glove champ so I have to say he knows a "bit" about the game.
Without seeing the fight I obviously wont get into an argument about it but it seems like negative responces are the norm after these big fights whatever the outcome.......:think

Cotto boxed beautifully for the first six rounds. Margarito turns up the heat after that and pressures Cotto to the ropes to get his shots off. Cotto tires but still boxes pretty well. In the 10th you could tell it was a matter of time that Cotto was going to get knocked out because he was fatigued and taking serious damage. Margarito throws and throws in the 11th round so Cotto takes two knees. The corner steps in and stops the fight.

Cotto was outboxing Margarito for 2/3rds of the first half of the fight in my opinion, but Margarito caught him with some good shots the times he caught him and even though he was losing rounds was continuously working Cotto's body. Marg kept following and chasing Cotto no matter what he was hit with, Cotto threw some brutal combinations that would probably have floored a lot of other Welters but Marg just walked through them. Second half of the fight Margarito caught Cotto on the ropes a lot more and continued wearing him down further and further until he was outpunching Cotto and Cotto wasn't moving as well. When this began to happen, it just went Margarito's way more as the fight went on, by the 7th onwards Cotto was getting hurt visibly but kept fighting back. Both fighters were really brave. 10th round Cotto was seriously hurt but managed to hang on until the bell. Margarito caught Cotto some more in the 11th, Cotto tried moving away but Marg ran after him and just kept throwing punches until he went down. From then on it was pretty much over, Cotto didn't seem to have anything left. Took a knee again about 20 seconds later without Margarito landing and his corner threw the towel in.

Cotto didnt box beautiful in my opinion he landed great shots but allowed Margo to make the fight at Margo's pace which we now Margo has more in the tank than Cotto so even though he landed good shots unless you are going to knock Margo out which is unlikely smart man goes to Margo's untested body rather than his granite chin

Better to have tried and been stopped than to not try and be knocked out

This is true. Also, Margarito kept his elbows tucked into his sides when not throwing and protected his body with his arms. It was like he was saying you're not hitting me in the body, but feel free to go for the head!

Clottey was able to get away with it until he broke his hand Margo is 1 of the slowest welterweights who doesnt come on until his opponent gets tired not bad strategy for a guy with great chin and stamina. To test the stamina and workrate of a guy like that I say you test his body

Clottey has a tighter guard than Cotto. Also Margarito was a slow starter back then so I think the out come of the rematch will be different.
