There was nothing Ray could of done in Montreal to beat Duran. Roberto was unbeatable that night. The fight wasn't always fought at close quarters there were even moments Roberto was jabbing and timing the right. He was OUTBOXING the boxer. The first time SRL got hurt wasn't cuz of Robertos pressure it was a jab followed by a perfectly timed right, at long range. Doesn't get more textbook than that.

Julio Cesar Chavez KO12 Meldrick Taylor is a prime example of a great little man beating a great bigger man.

Vasquez was a great fighter? I must have missed that.

This. I also thought the saying was, "All other things being equal......."

Of course there are varying degrees of good, and that's where most of the results posted here came from. Pound for pound, Whitaker was really just THAT much better than Vasquez (who wasn't bad at all, mind you). Louis was THAT much better than Baer, so sometimes the "Good Little Man beating the Good Big Man" doesn't always work.

    Duran-Leonard was a good shout.

Vasquez was a very good fighter. And I thought he won that fight. Gil Clancy did, too.

Dempsey - Willard was surely one of the most pronounced examples. It was like watching a terrier bite at the heals of his master. But Dempsey gave him a hell of a doing over round after round.

Well maybe not great, but he was a good champ. Beat a prime Winky and when he lost to Sweet Pea he gave him a tough fight.

One of these days I'm going to re-watch that fight on youtube.
I dont actually remember who I had winning, I can only recall it was really close and that Vasquez wobbled Whitaker on a couple of occasions.
A fighter that I thought beat Whitaker decisively in their first fight was Wilfredo Rivera,in a clear as day easy fight to score.

Vasquez was a very good fighter though, not a great one.
