You're talking about him getting into the NEVADA boxing hall of fame. Regional Hall of Fames have a way lower standard. Hes absolutley deserving.

Porter is arguably the 3rd best 147er of his era and a 2x champion. Between him and Thurman. And 147 is a real division where that matters. Porter getting into the HOF is not a disgrace hes a borderline candidate. It might be a disgrace he gets in before so and so but thats a different story. He belongs in the Nevada boxing hall of fame. If you've heard of a fighter they probably belong in their state or countrys boxing hall of fame.

This site lists fighters by state based on birthplace and their rankings are flawed but if Shawn Porter was born in Nevada hed probably be the greatest boxer ever born in the state. They have him as the 7th best boxer born in Ohio.

Definitely agree with this, but in which case when was his peak?

TLDR: Wilder was already outside his prime before Ortiz 1 (2018). He's cooked in 2024.
    (Edit:
sorry, This post was a lot longer than I expected)

For boxers I think we can agree that what extends their athletic peak is Skills and Experience (against quality opposition).

Skills: well that isn't going to help extend Wilder's career
Experience: he certainly fought a lot of low level opponents, but didn't really have an extended amateur career. His step up in level was after his physical prime had ended.
Athleticism: this is what Deontay's game was built around.

When do athletes physically peak? Well, I suspect the vast majority of athletics records are set by people in their early to mid 20s. Jonathan Edwards was late 20s.

So Deontat's peak was likely also in his 20s. He was what 29 when he beat Stiverne for the title (in what was actually a well-rounded boxing performance by Wilder - arguably his best). I strongly suspect this was his peak performance.

Wilder likely started declining all through his 30s but he still had the right hand to equalize. But the older he got the harder he found to deliver it, with every passing year

In 2016/2017 this guy was having difficulty with like Spilzka and Washington.

He then goes life and death with Ortiz in 2018 who is physically even further beyond his prime years. Wilder takes a career shortening beating in that fight.

No way is Wilder still prime even as early as 2018

He then fights Fury end of 2018, a younger guy but one who physically wasn't where he needed to be. Wilder looks terrible in that fight.

Yet more evidence he is a post prime fighter.

He gets a gimme against a no-hoper like Breazeale, but then fights Fury who has got himself in shape.
And gets another career shortening beating.

Basically, since Stiverne he has not looked good fighting any guy at the top level unless they were in even worse physical shape than he was due to age or poor conditioning (Ortiz 1+2, Fury 1).

Wilder was no longer prime as early as 2018. Apart from his win over Bermaine Stiverne (2015), Wilder wasted his prime fighting no-hopers.

This means: Ortiz, Fury, Parker, and Zhang ALL fought a post prime Wilder. Ortiz and Zhang were both older than Wilder, but their skills extended their career. Fury and Parker were both younger and more skilled than Wilder...

Are any of those wins over post-prime Wilder, ATG wins? Do any of them beat PRIME Wilder?

    Short version:
Wilder's career peak was 2015. Ortiz beat what little remained of Wilder's prime out of him in Jan 2018.

Parker, Fury, Zhang ALL beat a guy reliant on his physical attributes who was outside his prime, and pretty much done at the top level.

Does anyone beat PRIME Wilder? PRIME Wilder was the undefeated World Champion aged 29.
