Old Popkins vs RJJ. That IMO would be a great fight. Roy and Hopkins are both old and past their sell by dates. They should have this as their last fight and retire. Be a good'n this would. Could Bernard Ruiz Hopkins get his revenge and hug RJJ to a decision?

its bad form comparing hopkins to ruiz. hopkins is 10 times the fighter ruiz ever was.

hate to say it, but a hopkins - jones rematch doesn't look as tasteless as it should, but maybe that's only because this is a rematch that should have happened years ago.

Bring it on I say...Hopkins should really want this fight if he really thinks he can do it.

Hopkins has the body a 22 year old, and is currently fighting as well now as he ever did. He's arguably coming off wins against Calzaghe and Pavlik.

Roy gets decisively beaten. Roy is past it, and just beat a fellow past it fighter, Hopkins is still giving the best fighters in the world hell is a consensus p4p number three.

Roy needs to stay the **** away.

Should've happened years ago, I think it'd be pointless now.

There's nothing wrong with RJJ's physique...and newsflash for ya...Calzaghe beat Hopkins. The only thing Hopkins won in that fight was an oscar for his great acting. Low blow my arse! If RJJ could get this fight he'd have a damn good chance of getting his 2nd win over the huggy bear John Ruiz of the LT heavyweight division. Thats how Hopkins is still effective - he cant sustain any pressure he hugs n holds like Ruiz and then on the break sneaks in a few shots. Maybe gets a couple in on the way in if he's quick enough.

I like RJJ over Hopkins any day...better to watch and a much more decent bloke.

Roy Jones Jr was completely outclassed by Joe Calzaghe and knocked out cold against decent fighters in Tarver and Johnson. A special performance over a shot to pieces, never proven, Jeff Lacy is not enough to match him up with a fighter like Bernard Hopkins. People are pretending like they are in the same boat or something. Hopkins went neck and neck with prime Joe Calzaghe not long ago, and whereas Roy shutouts Lacy, Hopkins does it to Kelly ****ing Pavlik. They are world's apart.

I agree, Joe Calzaghe won the fight. He was still yards more competitive than Jones was, and that speaks volumes on where both Hopkins and Jones are right now.

Bernard Hopkins is a master at his craft. He dominates great fighetrs; Trinidad, Pavlik, and Tarver was expected to win easily. People criticse him saying he takes on Welterweights and beats them but look throughout history. Why did nobody criticise Hagler for taking on Duran (former Lightweight), Thomas Hearns, or an inactive, blown up Ray Leonard. Historically, all of the great Middleweights have taken on the best Welterweights.

You obviously didn't tune into his fight with Kelly Pavlik, arguably the performance of the year. He outfought, outboxed, and out punched the much younger Kelly Pavlik. It was humbling to watch.

    Good for you.

Comparing Hopkins to Ruiz is, as others have said, absurd. But yeah, this would be a great fight - one that SHOULD happen. Unfortunately, these logical late-career rematches don't always happen.

I did watch Hopkins v Pavlik....it was a shutout win and thats because Pavlik himself was found to be a one dimensional fighter who had 1 way of fighting and didnt know how to adapt.

    Sour grapes.

Hopkins was a 4-1 underdog going into that fight. He absolutely battered the **** out of Kelly Pavlik for 12 rounds. What a performance.

Give credit where's its due and we won't fall out.

You get me wrong - Hopkins is a great fighter. Only a fool would say otherwise. But I think prime for prime RJJ was better. What they both have left now is hard to say - RJJ well, yeah he's just had a good win against a never really has been and Hopkins style still works well for him at his age but I think this RJJ v Hopkins II would be a great sell and one the fans would buy!!! This fight has got to happen...2 greats in their twilight stages getting it on one more time. I really thought Hopkins would be calling for this fight...I mean if he wants to equal the score hasn't he now got a great opportunity?

I think Bernard Hopkins has a slightly better resume than Roy Jones, but who was better in there prime is up for a debate - certainly.

Bernard Hopkins remains one of the best fighters on the planet, whereas Roy Jones is hardly relevant - even after yesterday's display.

I feel this would be a huge mismatch.
