    That saying had actually been in use long before Gans' mother sent him a telegram imploring him to "bring back the bacon" at the first Nelson fight. Joe later responded to his mother: "Mammy, your boy Joe is bringing the bacon and lots of gravvy."

    Yes, Joe Gans supposedly cabled his mom the phrase "bringing home the bacon" after he kod Frank Erne for the LW title in 1902.
